    Default driving without power steering

So it looks like I'll be driving my 240 without power steering. I just wanted to know what you guys think of it. Is it really that big of a difference while driving? Do you ever seem to get fatigue in your arms from driving? The wheels and tires on my car are both small and light so I don't see it being to much of a problem. Basically I want to know what your experience is without power steering.

my s13 without power steering felt like my integra with power steering...its really not that bad, but if your gunna be drifting then it could be a problem...the steering wheel is gunna snap at you...it takes some getting used to

In normal driving, it's really no big deal, especially with a light car. You'll have to saw at it much harder at parking lot speeds, but otherwise...no big deal.

Thanks for all the input guys. I don't really plan on drifting, mostly just some nice mountain runs and I want to try some autocrosses.

My s13 had a power steering rack with no PS connectd

That's the worse case scenario, it still worked for me!!!

    14PSI helped to compensate though

No PS in my 7 and I love it. It's only a pain turning really slow with one hand.

I have no PS in my Civic, and it really isn't an issue unless I am trying to do parking type stuff with my racing rubber on.

same boat as you, I love feeling true feedback. It is stock no PS, manual rack DESIGNed to be a manual rack (as apposed to diconnected/broken PS)

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

Feedback is nice, but steering resistance is the enemy of a true smooth operator.

If you've gotten rid of the belt for more HP purposes and you want to auto-X, you might as well put the belt back on. You won't see that much of a gain. In fact, you'll probably come out even or a second or two behind trying to fight the wheel in all the turns. It's definitely a treat to have while Auto-Xing. Later, QD.

I dont have powersteering on my Miata. I love it you can feel what the car is doing a lot easier.

I have never had a car with powersteering except for a 240 and I planned on removing it and converting it to manual.

The EF I had came without powersteering, it was fine because its so light. My 240 has no powersteering and it sucks balls though.

My 'Cuda doesn't have power-steering and that thing can be a *****. It's almost like shooting an unguided missile when you pull out of the driveway. But it weighs alot so your car should be easier.

Just take you more energy to park your car, once the car is moving, it is fine.

i had no PS in my protege, i called myself removing it for more power... i regret getting rid of it. it wasnt bad liek people have said, but i always wanted it back after i did it...jsutnever wante to put everything back on.

And also i noticed my rack started to get really sloppy months later.. most people swap out the no p/s rack. but ur steering will get kind a sloppy if u just disconnect it and just run it.

As long as the car is rolling it's not a big deal.

Move your car while it is sitting is the hardest part. Other than that, you will be fine. It does save some weight and take a little less power form the engine.

Wow, thanks for all the responses everyone. I didn't plan on not having PS its just not going to be able to work on the 240 I bought. Its good to see that mostly all of you have no problem with it and that I can gain a slight bit more power without it. Is there any precautions I should take while the car has no PS.

I don't have it in my civic or the integra. It comes with it and I regret taking it out to look "cleaner". Its fine when its moving though. If you have a power steering rack and want to take out the pump, try looping it instead of draining all the fluid out of the rack.

see if u can invest in a no p/s rack, if the 240 ever came with no p/s.. or else like i said in my post the steering will et sloppy over the months, once the fluid dries up inside, and all that.

Why is it not going to be able to work? If it has a powersteering rack but doesn't have the pump and hydraulic lines then it will be much more difficult to steer vs a manual steering rack.

    ^Post whores

And dont just UNPLUG it all, there is a way to convert your power rack to manual. Or as much manual as you can. This will prevent the sloppy feeling, etc.

None had a gun to your read telling you to read it.

When I go to pick the car up I'll get more info on whats wrong and if its worth fixing.

did i say anyone had a gun to my read telling me to head it?

all i said is people repeat each other and its useless, you were given couple good advices, and if anyone has anything to add to it, then great.. instead of idiots that continue to post "when moving its fine, at slow speeds it sucks" Over and Over.. im not making fun of the fact that you didnt know that or were asking quetions about it.. just the fact that 20 of these posts in this thread were useless because it was just repetition..

i was reading through to see if anyone had interesting things to say that i didnt know about, and i did read a couple.. obviously it interested me, but i was annoyed by the same post showing up over and over.. i think you too what i said the wrong way..
