Ford is not wanting to pay any more for the 6.4 than they did the 6.0. According to Navistar, the engines of course will cost more because of all the added emissions equipment (6.0 $9,000, 6.4 $11,000). The sharing of warranty is also a hot topic of course. As stated, Ford is claiming that Navistar is not paying it's full share of warranty (a 50/50 split I believe), and Navistar claims that the Ford technicians were not trained and therefore changed many parts unecessarily and they do not want to pay for parts there is nothing wrong with and should not have been changed. Ford's response being that it was Navistar's responsibility to train technicians, Navistar's response to that was that classes were offered and Ford chose to only send a representative in each region who would go to the dealers and train them. It's very complicated and both sides make a great case against the other. The next contract is for the 2010 vehicles. Both companies already have a backup plan i'm sure. I have also heard that Ford may be looking to go with Cummins for their full size trucks. The already have some 150s with small cummins engines in them.
Only time will tell really. Honestly I think that Ford will stick with Navistar. The quality of the 6.4 is top notch and they are working very hard together to keep it that way.
