datsons and RX's
I used to have a '79 Honda Civic 1200. Same thing as a CVCC pretty much, but the wheelbase was a little shorter and it weighed 100lbs or so less. 1200's are more common than CVCC's. Most people just call them all CVCC's but the 1200's were actually "Civics", and the CVCC's were marketed as a different model.
The all aluminum engines in those cars are very light. You can lift the bare block easily with one hand. My dad and I took the motor out of mine by just lifting it out, no lift necessary.
The only downside to those old Civics is the wierd 4x120 bolt pattern that makes it impossibile to get wheels. But if you use later model hubs and the right spindles you can put on 4x100 wheels and any Honda brakes you want.
I have my favorite old school imports, my CRX and my 510. My 510 is going to be bad ass when I am done with it.

I love the old CVCC Accords and Civic. i have an accord now that i just re-did. the 2000Gt is also a good one.
wow...this thread made a comeback...good posts guys. I like the mitsu cordia...don't know that I've ever seen one before
The CVCC engines have a 2nd intake valve (12 valves per head total) and a "pre-combustion chamber". Compared to the non CVCC heads (8V) that were available everywhere else in the world, the CVCC heads are just worthless. If I had my druthers, I'd have an EK-1 (1.8L early USDM Accord) block with the EL (Canada/Europe/Aus. 1600cc engine) head on it and the flywheel modified to fit the stock Civic trans.
Or the JDM 1200 RS engine that had dual sidedraught carbs, a hot cam, and a 4/2/1 exhaust manifold (the carbs were similar to the SU's found on British engines).
Theres a guy in Canada who swapped a ZC into one of these cars, and several guys who have swapped in D-series motors. The B-series motors won't fit without extensive mods to the frame rails because the trans. is too big. You'd almost have to make a tube frame for the front end.
I was looking at some earlier, there's only 4 or 5 on the antique autotrader though...'78-'83.Originally Posted by NawzDawg!!1!
Not sure how hard it would be to integrate the later model suspension on onebut it would be a blast to have my ITR engine in a '78 with the 500+lbs spring rate/coil-over dampener and a cage/rollbar, lol

I'm trying to convince one of the members here to sell me his 69 Fairlady Roadster.
My BMW project car will be legally "antique" next year...does that count as old school?! About 2,200lbs w/ 400+whp @ mid boost, lol.
I notice a few people in this thread interested in the early model civics. I happen to know a friend that is selling off his 79 hatch with a bunch of spare parts if anyone is interested.
My faves gotta be the 510
And old celicas and corollas![]()
There was a guy celling a nice looking, running 79 civic with a parts car on CL the other day for $1000
Celicas,RX-3s,Cosmo,240Z,2000GT all very nice cars
One of my favorite old school (Japanese) imports is the Mazda RX-4. My dad used to race one in the SCCA very regularly and some of my earliest memories were riding on the hood/fender of his car while he rolled through the pits.
