Audi has revealed the redesigned 2008 A4 sedan, which has been updated to share many design cues with the new A5 coupe, the A4's two-door sibling. It's also much larger and more powerful, too.

The new C-Class and 3-Series rival is 185 inches long — 4.5 inches longer than the previous A4, seven inches longer than its BMW counterpart, and four inches longer than its Mercedes rival. The new A4 is also wider, at 71.9 inches. It exceeds the 3-Series in width by a fraction of an inch, while surpassing the C-Class by two inches and the previous A4 by just as much.

The proportions have a new balance compared with the previous model: the front body overhang has been considerably reduced and the bonnet and wheelbase are now noticeably longer. A long, coupe-style roof line meets the side sections of the body at an almost invisible zero-gap joint.

The car's wheelbase has grown to 110.6 inches, while interior space has increased by nearly an inch. Rear passenger knee room has grown 1.5 inches to a respectable 35.75 inches. Compare to the C-Class and 3-Series, the new A4's wheelbase is two inches greater.

New "Xenon Plus" headlights feature daytime driving lights that consist of 14 white LEDs.

The A4's new body shell is 10 percent lighter than the outgoing model, despite being much larger. Overall weight is up very slightly, but more efficient engines mean fuel economy is better across the board.

The new 3.2 FSI is the most powerful engine available in the new A4. It develops 265 hp and also delivers 243 lb-ft of torque all the way from 3000 to 5000 rpm. The car accelerates with a manual gearbox from a standstill to 62 mph in only 6.2 seconds. As an alternative from 2008 onwards, this engine can be combined with the 6-speed tiptronic automatic transmission.

The smaller of the two gasoline engines, the compact four-cylinder 1.8 TFSI, delivers 160 horsepower and peak torque of 184 pound-feet.

The three diesels for the new Audi A4 are two V6 units and a four-cylinder inline engine. The 3.0 liter mill delivers 240 hp and and 369 pound-feet of torque from 1500 rpm to 3000 rpm. The 2.7 TDI engine offers 190 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque between 1400 and 3250 rpm. The four-cylinder powerplant serves up 143 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque between 1750 and 2500 rpm.

I think the A5 looks amazing, and a "sedan version" of it looks nearly as nice. I don't like what they did with the rear end though...those tail-lights don't fit very well. The trunk-lid looks funny...as if it's from another car. I love Audi's for having that understated beauty, and I think they lost it a bit in the back. The front end is perfect though. That LED strip in the headlights is making an appearance in lots of new Audis too...very showcar-like. Of course, the interior is excellent. Audi takes the cake with their work on interiors...definitely some of the best. I like it a lot...what do you guys think?

That's exactly what i think. You sir have good taste. Kind of like the Q7. The rear just doesn't fit. Bugs the shit out of me. It's like a girl with a pretty face, hot body, but no ass. not saying the a4 needs more ass, just doesn't fit with the rest of the car. Those engines have a lot of torque, all of them. Reps, if i can.

The A6 rear end looks great...I think the current A4's rear end looks pretty good though.

Hah, I made a thread about this...about the mismatching shapes in tail lights or the triangular shaped tail-lights. I don't think it looks good at all...not a "design trend" that I think I'd get used to any time soon.

the back looks like a civic, definitely not what should be expected from an Audi. I love those LEDs on the front, that looks cool

Civic like taillights (as mentioned) + a very BMW coupe looking trunk shape FTL.

Besides that, it looks nice. As always, the interior looks excellent, although I think a 3-spoke steering wheel would look better than the 4.

I don't think it's too bad...3 spokes says "sporty" to me, so we'll just wait for the next S4.

I actually feel completely opposite. I like the small lip on the trunk lid. It keeps it from being boring IMO.

The taillights, while incorporating a common modern design, are sleek and smooth. They give the car a leaner appearance, while a taller or wider taillight would simply make the car appear bulky.

The front displeases me greatly. The centergrill is well enough, being Audi's uniform appearance, but the foglights look completely out of place and seem to be housed in what appears to be cheap plastic. It has such a large plastic housing for such a small foglight.

"Well now Hanz, we have put in ze foglight. Now what zo we do about ze extra space?"
"Just fill it with zome plastic filler. It will be okay."

The headlights look half-passed retarded with the random LED lights. It looks like they gave a 5yr old a Litebrite and put him to work. The overall design isn't bad, but they could have done without the LED's.

I really love the interior on this particular car, but past Audi's always had a cheaper VW feel to them. At least to me they did.

This is a hella bad ass looking car...Audi seems to be on design roll as of late, although, I do not really care for the new TTs.....The RS4 is one of the sickest cars in production, at the moment.

A5's look absolutely amazing. In fact...the guy who designed it also designed the Alfa Romeo 147 and 156, and also the Lamborghini Miura Concept, yet he considers this to be his best looking work.

Toss that A4 my way when you decide to scoop up that A5, yea?

Yea I was looking at the 135i coupe, or a used 335i coupe. But after seeing some nice ass high res shots im fully convinced on an a5, though it will be more expensive than the a4 . But that interior is like butta, no BMW comes close to that interior, which was the huge downside to the 135/335.

BMW's have a very stern sort of luxury...you know? It's very authoritative, not contemporary and inviting like the Audi's.

I also think Audi's just look better on the whole than current BMWs.

Anyway, good luck on your search!

Yea by the time I'm ready, I should hopefully be able to find a nice used CPO'ed a5. Hopefully in Sprint Blue.
