Default difference in z6 and y8?

Okay what's the differences betweeen the d16z6 and the d16y8. I mean i know d16z6 is obd1 and d16y8 is obd2 but what makes them different and which is better?

Oh, and if I were to drop a d16y8 into a EG coupe, what all would I have to do to the d16y8? Or is it drop it in, plug and play? Might be doing a d16y8 swap into an EG coupe so I was just wondering.

y8 head flows better. z6 (arguably) has the better bottom end. y8 tranny has steel forks (stronger) than the 6 tranny. ummm - i am missing something but can't think of it.

Y8 has smaller combustion chambers and better cams, the pistons are a different dome/dish setup.

Cool, so if I were to use a y8 head on a z6 block, would I have to change my car obd2?

I think you could use an OBD1 dizzy and get away with it. You'd definately have a nice little motor with that setup, as it would bump your CR some.

The only think I'm not 100% on [it's been about 2 years since I've built a d-series] is if the teeth on the dizzy and cams line up or not.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure about that neither. I was wondering if I could use an obd1 dizzy on a y8 head. I been thinking bout getting one for my build. But not sure, since my z6 head got scarred to hell.

You want to convert to OBD1 - not OBD2

Umm... yeah, thats what I said. I wanna know would I have to change anything on the head since my car is now OBD1. Like will my z6 dizzy work on the y8? And what else will I have to change?

if your using your z6 mani and dizzy you shouldn't have to change obd. the sensors are the only thing that makes it obd2. atmospheric pressure sensor is on side of head and so is temp sensor.(same thing obd1-obd2) only real diff is you need to have one bolt thats diff on the heads just cant remember which one

Really? Yeah, I'm using z6 dizzy and mani. So that's it really? What kind of special bolt?

y8 has 2 more hp because of the intake manifold than the z6 .. the cam is the same ... block has different pistons which produce the same Cp ratio ... there the same .. different obd..... z6 block is stronger ..... the y8 block sux donkey dick .... the crank sux , the cam is the SAME as a z6 ... headflow is the same .... the manifold produces more flow than the z6 ..... the jdm d15b is the most aggresive ( FACTORY) cam u can get .... which in a z6 with a y8 manifold on top would increase hp an a lil torque .... which is less than 5hp .... anymore q's ? EDIT: you cant use the y8 headbolts .. u have to buy special ones like i told you b4 ... its like buying CR/vtec headstuds .... they have to be made to fit the y8 to a z6 block .. which is retarted in my opinion .

all in all .. buy a z6 throw a jdm d15b cam in it wit a y8 manifold with d16a1 pistons and shot peened rods or aftermarket ,acl bearings and call it a day .. the most you probably get out of a d series withut boost ... FTW!

yes but there is a minor mod u might have to do if the y8 mani is auto or manual .. he needs a manual y8 mani .. an yes the flow will be much greater ...or he can get a auto manifold and drill an tap a place for the IACV valve on the back of the manifold ... which is hella easy ! ... he will see a good bit of diff boosted .... but n/a he would maybe see like 3-5 hp gain ....

Yeah he would, but nothing noticeable to someone who already has turbo, at least I don't think so.
