Default Can't decide on a new car

OK, well... as I posted here before, it's time for a new ride, and I've been looking at some options, just want to get some input. I've found quite a few nice cars in my price range which is ~$20k. Originally I was looking at a WRX, but then I did some figuring and I can afford a little more than that. Anyways, hit up the poll and let me know why you chose what you did.

Do you want a car to keep stock(ish) or a car to mod? If I was to keep one relatively stock, i'd go for the s4. It will be fast, fun, luxurious, and pretty reliable. Perfect for a DD. If i wanted a car with less luxury and maybe a little less reliability(modded), but a lot more fast and fun to drive i'd get the STi.

Yeah, it's going to be a DD, the EP is goin under the knife for a build. I don't plan on going too crazy with it.

    ha. self ownage.

The mazda is a sexy ass car for sure, and I'm definately a fan of a 2 seater [or at least a coupe] over a sedan, but rotary...plus ~$22k for a 14 year old car...that kinda holds me back.

    STI...

-the s2k is teh secks...but parts are expensive and there are minimal power gains unless you go with forced induction but that equals a lot of $...but they handle like they are on rails and with exhaust... sounds like God shouting at you.

-Good luck trying to find an ITR with less the 55K miles that hasn't been abused/modded/raped/stolen...

-i love s4s (i almost bought one) but...after 100k i heard one has to replace the turbos which requires the taking out of the engine (PITA)...and parts are expensive...and its a veedub so durability tends to be an issue if you don't have a warranty..

-FDs are gorgerous...rotaries are the work of the devil (unless it's a 20b) and like to go kaboom a lot...unless you are buying a shell and dropping in an LS1(2)(7)...IMO i wouldn't do it.

-STI probably the best choice (even though i hate the sound of a subaru..sounds like it's misfiring)...4 doors, AWD, turbo, aftermarket support from the heavens and relatively best bang for the buck...

yea...but remember the resale value. as long as u dont wreck it the price never drops, may even go up. These other cars, once u drive away...BOOM price is gone.

if the oil wasnt changed the lines could be all clogged, turbo could be about to let go. We've had a few A4's in the shop with turbo issues. each time it was an arm and a leg for the owner. these arent cheap cars to maintain...remember that.

Althought S4's are badass cars only buy one if you are prepared to maintain it, it's not cheap. I'd get an S2k, that would be a fun car.

get the rx7. like the other guy says...the value never drops, ut they are pretty expensive to maintain...thats tru. but i figure with your budget, you can have a nice rx7. ur not gonna find one new and there are plenty on autotrader.com for 15k. save the other 5k for a built motor and ur good...makin 300+whp with a fresh 20b-rew. i have onwed a few rx's before and haev definantly blown one up. plain rebuilds arent the expensive, but upgrader/preventitive rebuilds can be costly. The car weights nothing. And any mods that you may do are gonna cost just as much as the other cars because they are more new. Dont get audis...electronic monsters, read some edmunds reports. plus they are german...i have a bimmer i know how expensive they are...YOU have to become a mechanic because the labor is soo expensive. STI's are too plain...everybody and their mother has an sti...and the rx is sexier, faster, lighter than the s2k so the choice is clear...

Yep. The Audi. Much nicer, classier and can perform just as nicely when done right and still be a great family car when needed. I agree with the STi becoming an "everyone has one" car. That would go along with the Integra and S2K(which isn't a manly car). As awesome as the RX7 is, it isn't a practical car. There's only so much you can do with a 2 seater. Later, QD.

I voted for the Audi...it's just a do-it-all car. It performs well, has a rock-solid build, and it's an incredibly comfortable car. I also think Audis are some of the best looking cars built...simple, understated beauty. Maintenance will be expensive, but that seems to be the case with most of the cars you've listed.

    Good luck on your search.

I just didn't vote. Reliable and turbo cars shouldn't be in the same sentence. german cars are expensive to maintain and where's the practicality in a roadster? Oh, on that one I didn't mention, check this LINK and tell me if you're still interested............. Do you see a trend?

If you're looking for a nice DD, then get something like an Accord V6 6 speed, or a Maxima. If that's too big, find a used Volvo S40 T5 6 speed. That's a dead reliable car and gets good gas mileage. And they have some serious top end pull too

    K series 626. That's right. It's got a K in it.

if I had to pick one of those, I would go with the ITR. It will probably hold its value a little better than the s2k, and would be a little cheaper to mod. I personally wouldn't go with the audi unless you buy a newer s4 with the 4.2L V8. I always hear how the turbo's go out and are a PITA to replace. I also wouldn't go with a STI since everybody has one. As for the RX7, reliability would be an issue as well. They tend to run hotter and they burn a little oil, which is never good for the turbo's (lack of oil or thicker hotter oil= short turbo life)

Hmmm. And what is the Integra? The Japanese version of the Koenigsegg? Lolol. Thousands more people own the Integra over the STi. If you're basing the selection on how many people own a car, then Integra would first on the list to NOT get. Later, QD.

My dad has an Allroad, it has the same motor as the S4 you are looking at. Other than a small oil leak that I can not find because the engine is shoe-horned in there, it is a great motor. They are a bit expensive to maintain if you are not doing repairs and maintainance yourself. I would go with the S4, maybe save up and get a V8.

Hmmm. And what is the Integra? The Japanese version of the Koenigsegg? Lolol. Thousands more people own the Integra over the STi. If you're basing the selection on how many people own a car, then Integra would first on the list to NOT get. Later, QD.
i never said that the integra wasnt probably one of the most tuned cars in the world. However, the ITR is a lot more rare, and will hold its value better since its is a limited edition numbered car. Also, he should be able to get one for a lot less than an STI. I was basing my selection on overall value. The sti will lose value from the day you buy it. The ITR will be more likely to hold its value. Maybe its different here in mid-ga, but I can't go anywhere without seeing a STI, but I have only seen maybe one or two ITR's around here.

You can probably find a clean ITR for around $15k, where as a 04 STI will run you closer to $20k with similar mileage and condition.

I wouldn't get the S4, 1400 for a replacement clutch, and 7 hours of shop labor, fuck that. Get a Lotus Elise
