    Default Lookin to Turbo D16y8

I have been thinking it over. I have gone back and forth tryin to decide if I wanted to go all motor or turbo. I finally decided that I want to boost my car in the future!!! Now the only questions that remain are how can I afford the parts, and where can I get cheap but quality parts?

BUT..... I one question I really need answered is... What sort of things should I do to my d16y8 in order for my car to perform the best with a turbo?

Such as should I get new pistons, cams, rods, sleeves, or what?

I don't wanna go swap though.

you can also start here http://www.turbod16.com/

you dont really have to do anything internally if ur under 10psi. i would recommend dsm 450cc injectors ($50), resistor box ($20), and chipped p28 ($100-$150) for tuning though

stock y8s can get around 200-220whp reliably on a stock motor. you need to make sure your motor is in good shape and all reg maintanence performed.

could have this answered at home genious....

For 350whp on a d-series you can do a few things:

    Darton/ERL/Golden Eagle sleeves
    Forged Pistons
Forged H-beams (block needs to be notched)
    EMS
    Headwork

    Or

Blockguard instead of sleeves with everything else mentioned above

    Or

Factory sleeves with everything else mentioned above

    Or

    Completely Stock

You can accomplish your goal of 350whp on a d16y8 with any of the above options, but in order for it to be reliable and last you need to have it tuned tuned tuned tuned tuned tuned tuned tuned tuned

Without a good/excellent tune you really should stick to the first option

Oh and let's be honest...it's gonna be a few years until you can afford even the last option if you have it done right

Yeah, you're looking at cams, lower compression pistons, better rods...don't have to get sleeves but recommend it. injectors, get TUNED ASAP! should be good...i think. might be forgetting something. i'm tired and can't think straight..lol

If you've honestly never had 200 WHP in a honda, you dont need 350. 200 WHP in a civic is a fast car, not a 10 sec car, but a stout driver that is ALOT of fun on the street. I suggest you start small, achievable. Yes, you spend money twice if you do decide later to go for the 350whp, but most people who dream too big get nothing, its better to achieve a little, learn and rebuild, than to dream big wanna spend $ that really isnt there, and never have anything at all. Also, if you wanna go 350 whp, a d-series isnt the best platform to start with.... why not go ahead and do a LS block, B16 head w/ bolt ons, get 180-190 whp, and then boost later to get 300+?!!

the cheapest setup that has been proven time and time again is the Eagle/ Vitara setup with ARP headstuds and a new headgasket. 460 horsepower has been made and there are several people with 400+ on mustang dynos making this power. ya thats right stock intake manifold, TB, Head, and Sleeves.
    Eagle H-beam rods- 300
Vitara pistons from FJT on d-series or turbod16-135
    bearings-50
    ARPs-95
    Cometic-95

thats 675 to have a built engine(not including machine work) that is proven to work. which is very affordable to me.

I'd just go ahead and piece together a good kit, good fuel managment, and maybe a T3. You be in the 200hp range, which is fast for not having already had a boosted honda. That way down the road all you'd need for more power would be a built motor and maybe a bigger turbo. You'd already have the manifold for a T3/T4 too.

The 350whp is very achievable, it has been done a countless number of times.
The cheapest was (as lsturbohatch) mentioned it the Vitara/Eagle rod combo for the block. You can use the stock head, but you can also upgrade to the Zex/Comp cam with springs and retainers to get it there a bit easier.
Keep the D series...you'll surprise most people when you murder them at the track w/ a single cam.

As for kits we offer several kits built to the customers specs.

^^^ on that. the wastegates, BOVs, intercoolers, and piping are ok. DO NOT use ching chong ebay turbos or SSAC, xspower, or OBX turbo manifolds. sometimes you get lucky with them but usually they will fail and be a waste of money.

    don't use the ebay wastegates.

Buy a quality part once and be done with it...the little bit you save buying the knock off will end up being spent plus some when it comes time to replace it do to it breaking, leaking, or not holding pressure.

I will give the FMIC's a for moderate WHP setups

i would agree with that. i've seen some nice fmic from a lot of those discount turbokit sellers, but the rest of the kit sucks.

boost the d stock, enjoy 200-220 then built the bottom end. i recommend eagles, scat, or tuner toys (don't know if they still offer them) and srp or better pistons. true, you can use vitaras, but after machining them and the lower compression you get i think you're better off w/ a 9:1 or even 9.5:1 setup on a d-series.

agreed. I have had great results from CPs. I run the 9:1 CPs in my Z6.

i wouldnt push that kind of power on a stock d series.... but then again thats me. people here have WAYYYYYYYYY more experience w/ these engines than i do. but just for the sake of reliability and durability i would at least sleeve the block and some headwork

    sleeved block
    titanium valves/valvejob
    high pressure springs
    cam
    port/polish

id go through the engine and check the rings and bearings and id definitely put ALL new gaskets. but that never hurts to do for anything.

then again if you have a lot of money and dont mind shit breaking then do what you will with the motor...

Don't waste your money on sleeving the block for goals less than 400whp.
