No cams. Just better Vtec fluid. Part #215865-d16s

    K series 626. That's right. It's got a K in it.

+1 for a kick ass post blackshine

on a serious note, type in "aftermarket cam SOHC" on Google.

the VTEC "sound" is your valves maximizing their lift and duration, in effect bringing your engine to it's full capacity. Just about any "aftermarket upgrade cam" will do this to one degree or another.

The more agressive the cam, the greater the effect. But there are trade-offs, such as driveability, idle, fuel mileage, etc. Choose carefully.

Forgive my ignorance on Hondas, but can't you bolt up a ZC head on a D series block? If so, go that route. If not, I hear that You can take some B16 pistons out of a 1st gen Integra and put them in the D16 block. I hear that you raise the compression by alot and with a decent set of cams, you'll outrun any dohc off the line. They'll eventually catch you on top, though

    K series 626. That's right. It's got a K in it.

I didn't know you can take b16 cams and put it into a D series block. . . I donno about that? And the whole part about the ZC head. . . I don't need one, I have a d16z6. It is already Vtec. . . Just need a cam!

the setup you're reffering to, blackshine, is called a "mini me"

what you said is mostly true, although i don't think it'd take a B series off the line. Lot's of variables to play with there... mods, engine condition, etc.

Yeah i know how Vtec works. . . but i was thinking that if you bought a cam with a bigger Vtec lobe it would make it more aggressive? Or would i have to do some valve work? What kinda cam would you recommend?

In order to take full advantage of a StgII or III camshaft, you're going to need more than just a cam... highly agressive cams will not work well at all with stock compression. You'll need to raise the comp in one way or another to see your max. hp output increase a noticeable amount.

BUT, if the "sound" is all you're wanting... cam away and rice it up.

    -jonathan

*edit* and do not forget to upgrade your valvetrain. If you're on a limited budget with only one car; snapped valvesprings are the things nightmares are made out of.

-go read up on www.d-series.org. that's where the SOHC gurus hang out.

I was told by a guy that you have a broader range of tq with that set up. I met the guy down at the V. He drove an EF with a roll cage and refused to go B series

ok fine you can hear the crossover, but you still arent going anywhere :P

anyways to answer the OP's question,

look at comp/ZEX, or maybe even crane. both good companies.

Get a better intake manifold. Skunk 2 makes a good one, you can here the crossover better, and you make a shit load more power throughout the power band. Also look in to throttle bodies. As far as cams go i like skunk2, just make sure you get better valve springs and retainers. Not sure how well that stock valves hold up. Also can't you get a different head gasket to increase compression a tad.

I've never seen any single ply headgaskets to "raise" it...

but everyone and their mother sells thicker ones to decrease comp. for boosted applications.

You can Buy a Y8 Metal headgasket and remove the middle layer, that increses comp, also if you want a good cam go with Zex, I will try to get the part number for you, but they have a awesome powerband and vtec is Almost as loud a DOHC vtec, also you can use some ZC pistons Or some pistons from a 1st gen integra and that will raise compression nicely.. also its pretty cheap and you can make 150-160 whp easy

the only good thing sohc motors have going for them is FI. I priced out a cam and valve spring package for my motor. Yea, $700 including installation for about 20hp. Thats roughly more than a 1/4 turbo setup cost. Consider other alternatives like Nitrous oxide

    I agree with BlkCD5..

I did alot of research when i had my EF, and this was one of the paths i was gonna take... you should just get your car running, and save for a DOHC... i know you too well Carey, this will make you a lot happier.

besides, if you get antsy, throw in the NOS setup you have...

LOL! Thanks Cody, I've considered using my NOS kit! 75 shot would do nicely! And of course i would do some minor things like. skunk2 mani, ZC pistons and rods, 255cc injectors, Bigger Throttle body, valves, springs, and retainers, headers, comp cam, and of course a vtec controller! So i have a few things i wanna do to this little motor. This isn't our of my reach at all! what cha think?

sounds good, once you finish, of course your male instincts are going to kick in and you'll want something faster, so get this build done and then get a b16 and build it from the ground up, and take you time. that way if something happens, you'll have a rocket of a b-series to throw in the Egg.

yeah thats a good idea, but Im thinking of pulling a load and going K series. I was going to get a bike, but i think i like Vtec too much! I think it will cost something like 6 or 7k for the conversion! that will be one sick Eg! I just want all motor right now. . . and maybe boost?

Yeah that is my plan, Im waiting until i get a b18b1 long block and built for LS/Vtec. Or I might just build it for boost? Still unsure, hell i'll do both once i get a stable job and my hatch is running! who knows? I've been wanting a project for sometime now!

Throw in a stock H22 and you'll be running 13's on street tires

I've seen a few built SOHC's that will out run mild VTEC b-series in a comparable weight car...

I've seen a Mini-Me kill a B-series off the line and win in the quarter mile.
Single cam ZC murdering people off the line too.

Mr. MuayThai, you can use DOHC ZC pistons in your block and it would raise your compression and then get a cam like a crower stage one came, your car would be pretty quick, and you can keep your stock valve train.

That is a pretty cheap way to do things? I also was planning to get a sk2 mani or a blox mani, along with bigger injectors and call it a day!

Toda VTEC Killer Cams....the primary and seconday lobes are the same so there is no engagement making it idle quite oddly for a 4 cylinder and doesn't exactly run the best off the line but 5-10k rpm's it SCREAMS.
