Default True dual exhaust on the X

So I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I have a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Ltd. with the 3.2L 6-speed. The exhaust on it sounds pretty good around 3k, but its way too quiet most of the time. There are only 2 systems that are being produced for the car, both are catback. One is from Borla, which has a very nice reputation, and the other from Magnaflow, which I'm sure that sounds pretty nice too. But the Borla is $850, the Magnaflow like $700.

I was thinking about the possibility of having a custom exhaust made for the car. Since I don't have inspections in Griffin, emissions really won't matter for me. How hard would it be to do a custom exhaust from the header back? I was thinking possibly twin 2" pipes from the headers, probably 2.5" test pipes, and go straight to the back and keep the same tips. I would have to get resonators or something so it isn't too loud, but I really want to open it up a little and get a better sound than what it has from the factory.

So, does anyone have an exhaust shop or know of one or can get me a quote on the price of what I'm looking at? There would be a few welds involved with the brackets/whatever and a few bends, but it seems like it would be pretty simple to do. I was thinking probably $400-500 would be about right for it. I just don't see paying for a Borla system that I'm sure would sound nice, but would still be restricted and I would have to pay more for the test pipe then. Plus with the custom exhaust, I could have everything I wanted.

Do you think this would be possible to do (the true dual system) for my price range? I'm sure whatever I get on there will definitely leave some people with the "O" face when I punch it, but I kinda like the idea of a custom system. Lemme know what you think!

I'd go check out Mainstream Performance. A custom exhaust should work just as good as an aftermarket one for a fraction of the price. Just make sure its mandrel bent. 2.5" should be fine for a normally aspirated application.

thanks for the help guys. yeah this will be my first mod, so I don't want a half-ass job ya know? I have 2 tips coming out of a single muffler, single pipe from the engine. so what I want is dual pipes from the engine into test pipes, but i'm not sure how to work out the exit. i will probably have to wait a couple of months, so i'm trying to figure it out now.

the base x-fire has 215, the srt-6 has 315, but I couldn't find any 6-speed srt models so I settled

Now I have a question about test pipes. Are test pipes individually made to fit certain cars or could I get a universal test pipe and have brackets welded on to mount up to the exhaust? I haven't been able to find any test pipes made specifically for the crossfire. I really want to open up some more power and give it a little louder sound, more like the 350 or g35
