Longitudinally mounted RWD engine in a longitudinally mounted rear/awd car? Besides mounting a transfer case to it how's that any differant than a 240 or supra?Originally Posted by Mr_Mischif

I would think size would be the biggest issue. But I swear, a 2JZ evo>everything.Originally Posted by speedminded

for drag or road course? plus their weak point is the ceramic & crystal made gearbox/t-case...Originally Posted by Mr_Mischif
I would think there would be too much weight up front to road racee it really effectively, so I woul say drag.Originally Posted by speedminded

i am doing 300zx with 2jz and skyline awd under the chassis...
Just out of curiosity....why? Just because you like the styling of the Z or what? Why not just buy a GTR Skyline?
hard to find! and pricey...
buy a $1000 300zx shell and go to work...
and dont like the rb's, cost and hard to find parts....
and yes i love the style of 300's
Oh ok, pretty cool and unique

but theres talks of full race building K20/K24/F20C powered nsx.. seems very interesting.. but 6 throttle bodies looks better than 4.. so I'll stick to what I got lol
Hrmm....you know that's actually a pretty good idea...turbo frankenstein k20/K24 bottom end. It's already made for transverse mounting and the exhaust is even on the side farthest from the cabin. That engine is farrrr easier to work on then the C30a/C32b.Originally Posted by nsxtcy21

^ That's awesome. Although, for the price Geoff stated it would be worth it to just build the C motor.
Unless it were a commonly swapped motor with available wiring kits and mounts, I could see the cost getting high up there really fast. This isn't even taking into consideration the cost of the chassis.
Pretty awesome idea and I'd love to see it. I would personally just buy a turbo Elise or Areil Atom for the price it would cost to do that.
That's what the lot original poster did...i new the jgtc supra debate would come up, they ran the 4 cylinder. My dream car build is a NSX and a reliable k-series in the back would sure screw with some peoples headsOriginally Posted by iloveboost

How bout a 1uz in the back of a SW20 MR2 (MKII). there are tons of ppl working on them at the moment, only a few have actually done it. the 1uz is also only ab 50-60 lbs heavier then a complete 3sgte!! if you need more power then that, twin turbo that bastard.

true enough but there is a there is a line that needs to be drawn where its just a stupid idea and a wasteOriginally Posted by Mr. KiDD
It would be worth it if you have a running C, now if you've got a C thats suffered a catastrophic failure- sucks to be you! lol.Originally Posted by iloveboost
Well treated replacement engines go for ~7,000.. installation will be around 1,500-2,000. (its doable yourself but you're going to need a lift to raise the chassis off the car, most dont have that luxury) Now you're in about 9,000.. more than twice what a K swap runs.. almost 3x what a pieced together k24/k20 frank would be..
Xmission would roughly sell for anywhere between 2,000-3,500 depending on mileage, condition, snap-ring range, year, etc. At that point a k20 swap would start to become feasible if the total for the swap is ~15,000-20,000... now Geoff mentioned a rough number of 35,000..
For that price you could buy another C (7k), Sleeve and pistons (~2k), Supertech Valvetrain (1k), lovefab turbo kithttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_qBo91HIcE (~15k) and still have ~10k to spend on on misc items and labor... I'm not even a boost junkie like most of you guys.. but Cody Loveland knows what the fuck he's doing lol.. my money would be going to him instead of Geoff in the rare occurance that I dont like my NA C32 build I'm working on or my engine decides to prematurely blow up lol
I agree, the only people spending $35000 for a K swap in their NSX are BALLLLLLLLLLIIINNNN
even at 35,000, i think most would rather spend the money on a Built C motor

i've seen and heard of NSX theft recovery shells with suspension and a few random parts still attached going for under $5k so i'd say the build could be done for quite a bit less. If I were to do it, i'd just get a K20a3 w/ 5 speed gearbox (doesn't even have to run!) as cheap as possible to do all the design & fabrication work with and once completed start looking for sponsors willing to build a K20/k24 turbo 6 speed to swap in it.
I'm thinking you can remove the rear suspension completely from the NSX and replace it with the frontend components of the RSX/SI, obviously removing the steering rack and having to weld in new shock mounts, etc. I haven't researched or compared axle width yet but i'm sure they're pretty close and could easily be tweaked with a little bit of ingenuity.
I honestly think it's a feasible project that is not far fetched. 4 cylinder transverse mounted mid engine car, it's not like it's the first time it's been done![]()
2JZ in a FD RX-7 is oooold news, done many years ago.
Sucks you think old Z cars are ugly...
Stock Miatas are ugly ,yes. But go look at the thread i started in the Mazda section...might change your mind.
