The miatas though seem to dominate over the MR2's in the autox classes and stuff is easier to get and easier to work on. I say miata all day over any of the MR2's for handling and fun to drive factor. ......never liked the handling or upkeep on the Mk1 MR2's.

I think that both cars are fun as well. I think there are two reasons for the Miata being so much more popular with tuners and auto-x.

1 - The Miata has been around longer
2 - the mid mounted engine on the MR2 Gen 2 is tougher to work on in the drive way.
