Have anyone used rota for track?
I'm thinking of getting a set of beater wheels that I can used for street and track. But don't know how rota hold up.
Btw, this is for my G35.
I'd highly advise against it. Rota's are cheap wheels that have been known to easily break under track levels of stress.
Buy my set of 5Zigen w/ tires that is ready to go to the track!!!Originally Posted by Interlude

just a heads up to rota wheel owners
http://www.teamdynamicsracing.com/co...ion_wheels.htm good wheels for the track.
booo do we have to go through this again... all wheels can have incidents, if money is no concern, buy better wheels. But for the price, certain rota models aren't bad. The problem is that when one rota wheel breaks, the story and pictures get circulated all over the internet, but what you don't hear are the thousands succesfully using rotas every weekend without incident. Really, when it comes down to it, no matter what wheels you're using, you should check them before and after each event, probably even between each session.Originally Posted by Verik

anyone else notice one of those pics was taken in the snow and the others clearly came off a ralley car? you have no idea what stupid jump they just chucked their shit off, for fucks sake i have bent steel wheels doin that. we're not talkin about the $200 for 4 ebay wheels, we're talkin about rota. i dont remember anyone on ia having a problem with them, maybe they just had a bad casting. no one thinks konig sucks cause some of their wheels separated. if ya like em go for it, i bought some for my 240.

If you are looking for beater wheels and tires you could go to Edge Racing. This is where I got my track wheels and tires. They do not have the best selection but they are hard to beat on price.

if it was a 2000 lbs civic i think rotas would be ok, but since its a heavy g35 that puts down a lot more power than a honda i would go with higher quality wheels
My 2800~ lbs 240 (no driver and instructor) has no problems so far on Rotas. Alot of WRXs, they seem to do fine. But if I had the money for a G35 I think I can spare $1500 on a good set of wheels to save a little more weight and have some more (than enough) peace of mind. Like I said, people remember and talk about the failures, not the success stories. In the end, it's about being diligent and responsible, check your wheels.Originally Posted by plv

How many times have you seen a Work or Volk wheel break from not hitting anything, just track stress? There are differences in how the wheels are made that make them essentially "better" or "stronger".Originally Posted by yudalicious
Just cuz you've seen that one picture of ebay SSAutoChrome's chinese made turbo split in half does that mean you think its just one picture, its still a wise choice to buy for your car when you want to run 20 psi at the track?
I personally would skip the rotas. You can pick up Enkeis pretty cheap.
It also depends how much tire you are going to put on there. If you are putting a street tire that at best is going to see a peak of 1.1gs then thats one thing but if you are putting hoosiers on it that are probally going to see and average of 1.25gs and a peak of 1.5 gs then thats a whole diffrent ballgame.

BTW, why is that ALL of those on the die hard expensive wheel bandwagon ALWAYS revert to the argument that expensive wheels are higher in quality? We know that, that's not the argument at hand, it's about weighing the risk vs. the rewards and making an informed decision.

so the risk of breaking a wheel and damaging suspension parts and brakes is worth the few hundred dollars you save on wheels?
look in the pics big baller, the uniformity in the break and lack of any kind of lip damage indicates a rotational shearing caused the break.
also its not just about the break but the wheels also tend to egg out in shape because of the cheap casting (if its even a cast wheel... most are not)
There's also a risk of getting in a car accident everyday, but that doesn't stop us from going out of the house. You can sound like a broken record and argue the same generalized argument all day, but the fact is, every weekend there are numerous using Rotas and other "cheap" cast wheels on the track, and with the exception of few isolated incidents (which you seem to be really fixated on), they're fine.Originally Posted by Verik

Btw, I see you on K-at from time to time, and (obviously) you're from around here, that is a very nicely done car, maybe I'll see you at an event in the near future!

rota means "Broken" in spanish
I'm sorry, but without specific details on what was going on when those wheels broke, there is no way to determine if it was a mfg. fault or something else. Simple as that. I have seen some of the highest brand wheels break under track fatigue. But it also depens on what you mean by "track". If you're looking for some light wheels to take to the drag strip/auto-x... i dont think Rotas are going to give you any problems at all. Under the stresses of hard road coarse driving, then i would go with a forged wheel. I have seen the Team Dynamics wheels severely crack on spec-miata cars from the heat of the brakes.. not from getting hit. I have also seen BBS wheels sheer the center clean off the barrel of the wheel from heavy use. Honestly, its all relative to what you're doing.
This past weekend i was at the BMW DE at Road Atlanta and saw several cars running Rotas with no problems. I used Rotas from drifting for awhile with no problems, and im using Enkeis for both DD and drifting with no problems. I have seen the lips on several SportMax wheel randomly break though....
02' Miata
Is this Miata Mike? If so, you gave me a ride in your old supercharged miata ontop of blood mtn (if you remember). Anyway, hope to see you around too.

if you are on a budget, go for it... but if you have the cash, go with some Work wheels.
Lovin life, even if its in a pink car!!!
Just to get it out there, I've owned both Team Dynamic's and Rota's wheels. I use them as my all around wheels such as Mt. runs, drag, and street use. The Team Dynamics in my opinion were more fragile because they vibrated more using new tires and being balanced where my rota's are smooth as heck under the same conditions. BUT, again I don't exactly know what kind of life they've seen before I got them.
The first bunch of rota's did have issues, believe they were even made in a differant country then...specifically the subzero's and i was aware of that when i bought mine. I don't know of any issues with the ones manufactured in the last several years.
As for wheels Interlude, look into Team Dynamics...they should have exactly what you want for a decent price. The Pro Race 1.2 would be a badass wheel on the G

thanks for the update speedminded.
I went to the track and saw a fully TT 350z tracked the hell out of the Rota and they're still fine.
Those wheels look nice...Are they well known for the track (sorry as I never heard of them before). I checked their inquiry form and they don't have the option of 18x9.0 available. I need at least 9.0 width, preferably 9.5
Choosing wheels has became a lot harder for me as I have a Bigass BBK that I'm trying to fit on![]()
yes, they have a race background....practically every car in Spec Miata runs them and seen tons of heavier/larger cars running them too. It's also a supplier to the British Touring Car Championship, ETCC, etc. I suppose they'll doOriginally Posted by Interlude

i'm looking for sizing...
I would go for the Rota P45R (Nismo 350Z knockoff) on all 4 corners... as i have yet to hear those wheels break, plus they weigh less than the stock 17's for the G35/350Z, btw they are 18x9.5 +35 and ~23lbs.
I myself have Enkei RPF1's in 17 on a 350Z and love them.
If the P45R's had been in stock anywhere i would gotten those.
BTW all wheels can and WILL break doing stupid stuff in your car, just happens that forged bend while cast break, for tracking i'd much rather fubar an under $200 rota than a $400 and up Volk, Advan, HRE, blah, blah (been there done it).

My two favorite low cost wheels right now are the Rota P45r and Team Dynamic 1.2's...depending on the size, offset, and look needed.
