Honestly slicks dont always get you half a second in the quarter. Ten years ago i ran 13.5 with street tires and 13.5 with slicks . Either way the same time. With street tires i had to role off the line . With slicks i launched real hard .The difference is in oreder to hook the slicks i had to let enough air out to kill my trap with a stock h22 plus stock h22 gearing .Sure my 60 foots were higher but i lost 4mph trap in the quarter. I ran 13.5 with slicks with th f20b stock in a stock si hatch back heavy as fuck. Everybody has always hated on h22s since the old days when in reality the have always been the best bang for the buck. I either out run or it was tit for tat with my friends turbo gsr and turbo b16 with my bone stock h22 . They are a beast and with the h2b kit they are capable of 12.9 stock. So a 13.5 on street tires is very beleiveable with dropping half a second with slicks.
On the other hand dont act like it was that easy and you could go to every track and run them times because you know your wrong . You had problems getting the same times with slicks . It all takes practice and ive seen some cars that hook well not benifit one bit from slicks because they arnt making enough power to need them . On the other hand you take me were i had the car set up pretty good running decent times and change one thing and cant get the 22s to hook .
Mike is right the track is a whole different cup of tea then the street . I have preached this to gregg alos. Dont think because you beat somebody that your car will runa number at the track if you have never been. Its no that easy lol.
Thats one thing i liked about our car. if we decided to street race the car had great gearing for that and as long as we run 22 inch slicks we could put down decent times at the track . When you let 22-9 inch slicks down to 7-8 pounds of air at the track and launch at 6,000 rpms and cant get traction you have a well built h22 lol simple as that . I wish we could run a 11 second pass before the new car but no need in changing the whole set up now when we have another car. Also the only tires i have hooked enough to break axles is a set of 23inch drag radials lol who would of thought.
