Default Need some help from the gurus.

Well this Sunday I plan on running my car at the Test and Tune at Import Face off.

This will be my first time with the new blower setup and honestly I have no fucking clue what Im doing when Im actually at the strip other than pulling up to the tree.

    Currently here is my setup:

481rwhp/ 412tq (tq is lower since its tuned to go full rich up top)
Nitto 555s 285/40/18 in the rear ( not drag radials)
Steeda Stage II track Suspension with Tokico adjustables all around, currently set full soft in the rear.

Ive seen some guys with my setup run a low to mid 11 with this, but I dont want to go in with those high expecations. Basically what Im asking is, what should I set my tire PSI to and how should I launch the car? Any tip would help me a lot, id hate to waste my time and money just to cut 14s @ 118mph all day lol

Edit: Just to show how shitty of a driver I am... lol Im not ashamed to admit it, I dont have enough seat time.

put the tires on about 20psi. Dont go into the water...go around....back up towards water and spin the tires up towards the starting line....just a quick spin to clean any dirt off. If it wont spin...track is hookin and no worrys. Slip the clutch out of the hole and do all you can not to spin.....even if it means slowing down on the launch. A slow launch with traction is usually faster than WOT and spinning to the rev limiter. Even if you run 14s keep running and trying different launch techniques. You want to do 2 things....learn what launch rpm/clutch slip/throttle application works best and to get a routine. The more passes the make the more routine it becomes and the less mistakes you make. Everyone was a rookie at one time. No amount of money or parts can take the place of seat time. Most of all have fun! You are gonna run a lot slower than your car is capable of but the more seat time you get the faster it will get.

    ^That's actually good advice.

One more thing, remember the clutches get hot and slip. So if you're hot lapping, be aware that the slip/engagement of the clutch will change as it heat soaks. Let the clutch cool down if you're launching and slamming.

Yep, and they all act totally different coming off the line (which is where its pretty important). It's good that you have the rears set up full soft. If you have a lot of trouble with spinning, you may want to consider some DR's. When you get up to the power level you're at, that's when you start having traction issues show up.

    Good luck next week.

Definitely don't go into thinking you will cut 11s on street tires. I'd be happy VERY happy with a 12.2 on your setup, tires, etc. Just make as many passes as you can and don't worry about shit but your light and your lane.

    Very true.

Side note: I saw your videos from last weekend. Very nice. Question though: I noticed your car was dropping the nose before the 60' mark. Were you spinning and quick shifting or is that just typical of your car? Just wondering.

I'd try around 20 psi like Jerry said, but if that's not working try other pressures. Might need to go lower or higher. Also, some street tires like burnouts, some do not.

My tires like 18 psi and about a full 5 second brake-stand burnout... others are good with just getting the dirt off.

He's going to Commerce so he has a good 2-3 hours between runs. Lol

I would take Thacker up on his offer and let him show you some pointers. Watching someone with experience launch your car and having them explain what they are doing step by step makes a world of difference.

Until you see someone do it properly, you're only guessing.

    I am the joke?

You are the one that spent all that money for a built ass rear end only to not go any faster at the track than with your IRS that we all told you was fine.

    11.7 @ 116, lmao I've been that fast since febuary of 05.

It dives like that because out the hole there is a lot of torque be put to the ground, and when I hit the clutch it just dives. Its a combination of the heavy front end (iron block and massive k-member) and stock struts. I just ordered a tubular k-member so that will take off a lot of weight, and adjustable shocks. So the front end will lift up very easily and will not dive like that anymore.

Was that before or after you let someone total your car? Dumb ass.

You are the only one laughing, I'm just fine with my car. I put the solid in so it would be stronger and more reliable at the track, but why am I explaining myself to you? You are just a high school drop out with no diploma at 22 years old. Good luck finding work!

By the way, how's Maggie? ROFL.

Aaron thinks spending money = going faster.

Sort of like Obama thinks spending money = better economy.

    See the similarity?

Never been to that event so IDK where it is. You will run very slow at commerce and probably get a lot of wheel hop. Check on mustang forums (just a guess) cause I know on Corvette forums there is a guy Ranger that tells exactly how to launch the car the most effective way (actually helped). Good luck can't wait to see the slips.

Ranger also races at the best track in the country.

Put me in the same car as ranger at the same track on the same day and I bet my bankroll I'll be cracking off in his times ass.
