Default why be all secret about your mods

so seriously it makes me upset when i go up to somebody and say "hey man that was pretty quick what you got in it" just out of curiousity not even a big deal.i use to be a honda guy and have respect for them. then i get nah man its stock or they wont tell. im like wtf. why not show off the hard work and money you put into a car. who cares. i could understand if you were seriously like untouchable but all the hatches and some mustang people are all secretive. its dumb. what is the big deal on keeping it secret. if somebody ask me my set (if i see them and know there not just trying to jack my shit) i tell them straight up cause i have nothing to hide. what you see is what you get. ex: like nemo. is he quick yes. is he untouchable no. so why hide what you got. its not like that particular swap/build hasent been done before. sorry nemo just using you as an example. so if im missing something please let me know.

i'm just gonna give my 2 cents and say its cause they are wanting to be faster than they are. so you think they are quick but the car should be quicker and they just suck at driving. giving the mod list would give you an idea of what its potential could be over what it just did.

so a car pulls a length on you when it should of put a bus down.

but see i thought the point of a race was to get a car in almost equal power/mods so that it can come down to driver skills and who ever has that slight edge so its a close race to have more fun not just totaly anhilate(spl) your oppenent. whats the point in walking someone you race? its not fun anymore.

Not telling you plays in their favor if they win or lose. If they win, they can say they have a few bolt ons. If they lose...they can say they only have a few bolt ons...with no tune. lol

It's ok. That is a common one among a few others people mix up.

I was never really secretive about my Mustang...most of the parts would end up on the ground anyways. No..im jk..but it did break...a lot.

i don't know...i don't get it for the everyday guys, i've never been secretive....the only thing you won't get out of me is the specs on my cam...other than that i could careless

now the grudge racers i can understand....we work with a few of the 1/8th mile outlaw track guys at the shop and understandably they don't pop hoods, always run n/t's, and are very secretive, to the point that they send friends of a friend of a friend to get their nitrous filled kind of secretive....we have done a lot of setting up, installs, etc that we have kept secret to this day and will continue to do so...but like i said, for the everyday guy, especially someone claiming to be n/a, not popping the hood is suspicious...though really the only thing you can hide on a n/a car would be nitrous and if the person were smart enough that could be completely hidden as well, you'd be surprised to know how many street cars are floating around with solenoids mounted in the fender area and bottles mounted inside of body panels

I think the main reason most people keep their mods secret, is if they ever want to race for money. When money is on the line, most people don't want to be giving out that sort of info.

However, MOST people that do any kind of racing at all want to be secretive about everything. I"ve never understood this, if it's just something you're doing for fun. Those kind of people annoy the hell out of me, and are the types I don't want to race.

I dont see why its an issue. If people want to talk, thats cool, if they dont.. doesnt matter.

    To answer the question.....,

some people race for $. If you're racing for $.. you're racing to win. Advertising a mod lists scares away slower cars and invites faster cars.

it gets tired... people dont just ask "whats in it?" anymore and accept the answer you give them. People start asking every specific detail as if you're theyre college instructor or some shit. Which may be entertaining for the guy asking, but when field the same questions constantly it gets old.

Like the other guy said.... if you advertise your car as X fast and lose to something you shouldnt have lost to. people laugh at you. also... if you're just trying to have fun and race... most people wont race a car they think they cant beat.

exactly...i have an insatiable appetite for competition and hate to lose, but it doesn't define me. I don't work my ass off and modify my car to prove im king ding-a-ling. i have no desire to race for money....therefore i have no desire for this to be serious, i don't get upset when stuff breaks, and i don't worry about what people think about my car or my driving skills. i've spent this entire year hearing the snickers and the bullshit from people who run their mouth and never race....saying my car should be faster...i mean for fucks sake i went 11.31@126 on et streets and full interior with a/c, p/s, and a whole lot of stock parts....but it didn't get me in a wad....just kept on doing what i was doing and hit my goal...

i dont pick on slower cars..... but i lay the bait for a slower car to pick on me... and at that point im not gonna send out a disclaimer or talk them out of it.

My car looks slow.... looks like the slowest car in the parking lot. If a kid in a civic walks up to me, makes a joke about it not being RHD or being fake ect ect ect... and talks himself into a race for $. I'm not gonna be the guy to pop my hood and say.... " see heres why you shouldnt race me "

i dont look for the slower cars, but i dont turn them away. No boyscout here.

when i race a slower car, thats usually the case. I dont talk shit, and when i call something out, its a fast car. If i dont see mustangs and corvettes in the lot, i usually go home.

I think we were posting at the same time, and I think you and I have the same opinion on the matter for the most part.

However, people don't get laughed at for losing a race that they shouldn't on paper....that just doesn't happen. Talking lots of shit and losing a race will get you humiliated, but I've yet to see someone get ridiculed for simply losing. For the most part, people say "anything can happen on the street."

But I race for fun...most of the people I know, just do it for fun as well. With that being the case, I have no idea why you'd want to purposely race someone you are much faster than. I advertise my mods, weight and hp, because I want a car that's pretty equal to me to run....not someone with 200 less or 200 more horsepower than me.

    LOL.

That's another reason I race for fun....I don't push the car to the limit to gain another foot in the race. I lift shift, go from a roll, etc. Basically, racing my car puts about as much strain on it as merging into traffic does lol
