cause he was on DR's. slicks save your axles cause they are really soft. wheel hop is what breaks axles and soft slicks cushion the wheel hop

I wouldn't say the wheel hop kills the axles. Most who break an axle at the track never move an inch. The hard sidewall of the DR doesn't wrinkle to absorb the shock of hooking, so that gets transferred to the axles, which snaps them.

well SRT4's have REALLY REALLY bad issues with wheel hop and thats why neon owners break axles. its bad, REALLY bad. the motor in this car is almost like a freaking powerstroke. large displacement(for having 4 pistons) and a very small turbo so it makes alot of wtq. my old neon on stock turbo made 297whp and 363wtq, with that much TQ in a FWD car it hops BAD and when you have tires with a hard sidewall and it wheel hops as bad as these things do the axles can break from the shock of the hard tires hitting the ground.

There is more than one way to break an axle. If you have "too much traction" and too much power, you'll just snap it right in half.

However, wheelhop will DESTROY your axles in a hurry.

Imagine trying to break a stick in half. You can either bust it over your knee with one swift snap, or bend the damn thing back and forth several times until it breaks in two.
