    as cool as that is, I'm half wondering how that thing handles in the twisties. I imagine that diesel lump under the bonnet must play havoc with the weight distribution.

    yes, because you know, properly tuned vehicles pour out black smoke. Do a little research, the same is true of diesels. If you ever see one of banks' tin turbo diesel trucks running, they don't pour black smoke.
