you should check the throttle position sensor (tps)

what kinda car?
and what would you check for on the TPS for a jumpy idle?

tps you can probe and check the TPS..my car is doing the same but there could be other possibilites too. are you throwing a cel?? have you bled your coolant system? that could be a issue as well

the tps sends a signal to the ecu to adjust the fuel according to how open is the throttle if the the tps is malfunctioning idling occurs due to the fact that the ecu doesn't know if the throttle is opening or not

If you aren't gettin any cel's then check your fast idle valve.

or coolant temp sensor, or is your thermostat stuck open....does your heat work well?

check the fast idle thermal valve.its on the bottom of the thottle body. take the plate off the side and screw the round plastic piece all the way in, then 1/4 turn out.

checking the fast idle valve is definetley good suggestion. where i work we get cars coming in all the time in limp mode (reving up and down between 1 and 2 k). just take one screw off the top and loosen the other and swing the cover out of the way. then get a flat head and put it in the slot and turn it clock wise (do not over tighten it) that platic peice inside just loosens up overtime

i've just seen people do the hulk turn of a screw driver and brake so much stuff so i figure if i tell u dont over tighten it u'll be more careful about it. i havent broken one and i dont know of ne one who has i'd just hate for someone to brake something like and have to go spend money on what could have been a simple/free fix.

aww but wouldnt you get a MIL been the tpSENSOR? keither way TP is only .5 v at idle(CLOSeD). So if its a TPS and it was sensing open trotle even if a lil bit wouldnt theh revs stay high?
and the FITV, would that fix only on cold start ups?

you won't get a cel as long as the voltage is w/in the operating voltages. i've seen people come in w/ the tps connected to the wrong plug (thanks honda for using so many of the same plugs underhood) and no cel.

just check the fitv... u don't even have to take the whole thing off.. just squirm your hands back there enough to take one screw off the back plate... loosen the other.. the plate will just hang there, and then u can tighten the plastic piece inside with your fingers... put plate back on...
should take.. 10-15 minutes tops... unless u didn't tighten enough and have to do it again...
