View Full Version : Oil on sparkplug

I found oils on all 4 of my spark plug and there were a good amount too. Does anyone know what could be the cause? Could this lead to an idling problem? bc the car wont idle when it is cold, but the idling is fine when it is warmed. (ka24de)

I'm not sure but I'd say thats probably bad piston rings if oil is getting up into the combustion chamber.

Oil on the threads or are they fouling out your plugs?

you have some blow by, most likely piston rings but you may wanna check the pcv valve if it's clogged or if it's good it'll rattle. that releases your positive crankcase pressure and if it's clogged up it'll find a way to release crankcase pressure ie past the piston rings thus creating your scenario and/or other oil leaks....i'd be a happy camper if i could fix my blow by with a pcv valve and 4 quarts of 20w-50. check that pcv valve

yeah it will cause your car to idle funny, and it's probably not operating on all four cylinders...

i had the same problem with one of my old cars, except for the oil leak was only in one cylinder, and i had a cracked head gasket/cover. usually if you have a bad oil leak like that, you are going to have to replace everything. spark plugs/wires/tube seals/etc

Is this on the threaded side where the electrode is or is it on top where it is getting on the plug wire too? If it is just on top where the plug wire is it is probably just the spark plug tube seals which aren't hard to replace.

i should probably just stay out of the tech section, lol

Why? Your post is a possibility also.

well its on the thread of all 4 the sparkplugs and none are on the plug wire. so its either the pcv pipe that is clogged or the piston ring is leaking?. i've check on others 240 sites too and a few of them said it could be the valve cover o ring seal or something. how hard is it to fix the piston ring or the valve thingy? oh and it doesnt smoke. it just idle like crap :\ only idle when its warmed.

if i tell you you need your motor rebuilt that'll make you at least check some of the things mentioned, so you need a motor =]

then it's prolly the seal for them..if it's not actually in the cynlider itself..

is it easy to replace the seals?

Yeah it's not hard at all. Everything is just right there.

buy a pcv valve, 4 quarts of 20w-50, a valve cover gasket set with the spark plug tube seals, 4 ngk v-power plugs, a six pack of bud ice, and what was that stuff we used to eat back in the day? oh yeah...PUSSY =]
