Mtn Run 9/24 or 10/1????

Going off of Hulud's other thread just wanted to view interest on hitting the N. GA Mtn's sunday morning! I figure it's close to the last time most people can get out since winter fall/winter is upon us.

Meeting Where: Home Depot off of GA-400 about 25-35miles north of 285! When you come up to a huge outside outlet mall it should be right across the street on the righthand side.

When: 9:30-10am on 9/24 and/or 10/1



So here's some google earth images of some of the roads I'm thinking about hitting!

This shows like the entire area of where we would be with Helen,GA being the small blip of the right bottom area of the screen with a square around it!

We would come up 19 and hit a left on 129/11 and head up the mountain! We'll stop and snap pics at this rest lodge area for 30min or so and let the cars cool off, then head east then back south on hwy 348 which (with a few turns) will take us into Helen where we'll grab lunch @ Wendy's! Head back up 348 and stop at the Mtn view or just keep riding through and instead of hitting 129/11 again early, we'll jump on hwy 180 (which is by far one of the craziest and tightest roads i've ever been on in GA).

180 will bring us back down to 60 which will take us out of the area and back down GA-400 to Atlanta.

I guess we would meet at the Home Depot parking lot in the back like usual and roll out from there! You can come filled or get gas at the next light from the Home Depot!

So you can mapquest any of those roads and see if there's a faster route for you if you live in N. GA already (gainesville, gwinnett, etc etc).

The only problem with it being this weekend would probably be the weather. On the last run I did I swear the weather forecast was the exact same and it turned out nice as hell up there! Here's weather.com's 10day outlook.

Like I said, the forecast was the exact same when we went up awhile ago but it turned out nice! If you don't trust it I see no problem in doing it the next weekend? Up for debate I guess!

I'm doing both sunday's, and the pace we could decide once we get the cars all together! I'm sure most will be able to distinquish who's going slower and who can't take the corners all too well. There's not many turn off's to where the slower cars will get left behind and to the view there is I'm sure we can work it out to where the 2nd to last car waits at that turn (I'm sure no1 will be that slow though).

My Miata is slow:D And my Spec needs brakes really bad. So I cant decide which car to take. If i get the brakes done by Sun. I might ride out w/ the spec if not than i'm going w/ the Miata;) ...PM'd ya Bballjamal

^^ I gaurentee you that miata has almost as much hp as my car lmao! If I remember correctly I only G-teched 109hp back in '01 and '02 and have since then only put down around 123.43whp back up in seattle last year! I ran a damn 100shot to get the number's I put down, so this car is weak! The suspension on the other hand :bump:

I'd also say I wasn't on the brakes most of the day! I'd definately use the tranny to slow down more than the brakes up there because the rear likes to get squirly...

Yea I wasn't going to say anything to the post you made because any way I put it might have come out sounding like more IA drama. I'll just say I've been in the autoX and time attack scene for awhile with a stock suspension car with upgraded bushings and brakes and have since then added $1300 to the suspension alone. I've also been doing Mtn Runs in a state with 10x more drastic areas than anywhere I've found here yet.

If you were trying to warn any ricers about speeding around the Mtn to a point where they couldn't control it and possibly screw up someone else and/or your crew than I understand where you're coming from. I don't believe we have any of that kind coming with us on this sunday nor next sunday (which I'm hoping stays sunny). Take it easy man!

At any given time there are groups of cars, bikes, bicycles, etc riding the curves. Theres no need to try and sound condescending because you know of another group thats up.

So there will be more than the normal amount of bicycle traffic. In all seriousness it was just a light drizzle up there and by the time we got back by Lenox area (headed back down 400) it got really crazy with downpours. 10/1 should be 10x better and there shouldn't be any damn cyclists out there by the thousands (our main problem). Other than that it went good! Got nitrous installed on a Scion TC, got stuffed with pizza, and solved my nitrous problem (blown line). Good day!
