View Full Version : How can I tell if this really is the problem?

My car recently has been losing radiator fluid, but I had looked all over, and couldnt find any water coming out at all. It was taken to Pep-Boys and they said that it was losing fluid from the radiator because the head gasket was cracked (They tested the water in the radiator, and found that there was exhaust fumes in it). They said that this means that water was getting into the piston chamber while the car was running, therefor it should get fixed immediatly, and not be driven. The weird thing is that the car runs perfectly normal. No power loss, no missed fires, no steam (that I could see) from the exhaust pipe, NOTHING. Is it possible that they made a mistake? Has anyone here had a problem like this, with water getting into the piston chambers? and how did the car end up running? Thanks.

what pepboys told you sounds really close to the problem . especially if htey tested the radiator fluid. it could be a small leak and thats why you havent really noticed it . but driving it you risking locking the motor. dont drive on a blown head gaket.
to ease your mine you can also do a CLT (cylinder leak down test) and will tell you around where the gaket is leaking

wow, thanks.
I'm probably gonna have to have my car taken somewhere, and get it checked internally, and then fixed where it needs to be.
Driver - what the hell is VTEC fluid???
