With the very first post, he PROVED why HE likes his lens with the shot he took. I'm sure if you ask him he'll tell you it was money well spent. ;)

Damn, I think some folks dont really understand some things, but maybe they do.

Why would someone dump thousands into a motor vehicle if it merely was supposed to get them to point to point B. Some people consider their cars this and only this as their purpose. Why do people spend thousands for poly-urethane kits on their vehicles, and thousands for turbo upgrades, tuning, and everything that is intailed with it? Because its a passion, just like photography is a passion. Ive done the drag racing bit, the drifting bit, the autoX bit once, and the show scene for 3 years before I joined IA. Although I may love all of that and still not giving that stuff up completely, photography is something I really want to be involved in and possibly make some money on the side doing the thing I love which is capturing photos. So the thousand spent on a "piece of glass" isnt just for the purpose of coming on here and taking pictures of ducks. It's an investment thatll stay with me as long as I own a D-SLR and will pay for itself in time.

awesome lense man... this is the one i am considering downgrading too... and for 1200$, you cant beat that bro!!! much lighter and easier to carry that my 120-300... this almost has me convinced to sell my tele for this.. niicceeee... :D

I see msrp was $1200 for the lens. What did you pay and from where? Why did you choose that over the Nikon 70-200 VR lens? It's a very nice shot. If you paid $1200 for the lens, I would of ponied the extra cash for the Nikon for $1500. The extra money for the VR feature is worth it when zoomed in at low light situations. Nice shot nonetheless.

I paid almost right at a 1000 with tax from Wolf Camera.

839 + tax, equalled to a little less then 1000. Probably around 970ish I believe (dont have the reciept with me.) If you're also wondering why I didnt go online to purchase from ebay. I just didnt feel comfortable with it, especially if something malfunctions. If something does, i can just return it within 90 days of purchase.

Why did I not go for the Nikon 70-200? It probably could have been because of the 1700 dollar price tag ;) . Just cant really afford. And to be completely honest, Id rather have the 24-120 VR for around 500 (ebay pricing).

I see. I didn't know the Sigma didn't sell for retail. The nikon 70-200 retails and sells for the same price. I thought the Sigma was the same. In that case, I can see why. If you did pay $1200+ tax then I would of bought the Nikon instead.

I buy all of my stuff from www.bhphoto.com They are reputable and authorized dealers. That lens is $853.05 shipped. Could of saved some cash getting it from there. They ship fast as well. Same day if you order early enough in the day. Wolf/Ritz is the biggest rip off. I hate that place.

Actually I had a typo in my post. It was 870ish I believe with tax. So only 20 dollars more than Bhphoto. I would pay the extra 20 just to know that I could take back easily in 90 days if I had any problems.

But yeah, other than that, I really dont go to Wolf/Ritz for anything.

Maybe its a good thing you bought it at Wolf. They are releasing a newer version of that lens you bought I think for the same price in a month. They added a macro feature to it. Time to return and rebuy a newer one from them or the web. No clue if it will be better than what you already have.
