their machines are always fucked up. I have 5% also and they always say mine it 2. ALSO! Do NOT let them search your car. If they tear, break, snap ANYTHING, they DO NOT have to fix it and there is nothing you can do about it. they MUST have a warrant to search your ride or a signature.
another thing, if you go to your eye doctor (if you have one), ask them to write you a note about having sensative eyes and you need the darker tint, blah blah blah, the cops can't do shit. I've had a few people do that and get away with it.

I completely understand the need for some sort of regulation on window tinting but I think the state has gone about it in the wrong way. What I have come up with would still raise money for the state or city but would allow people to have window tint who pose no threat to police. The idea behind the current law is that by limiting the window tint percentage to a level above 32% an officer is less likely to be shot by a suspect as he approaches the vehicle and have no idea before hand what is about to happen. This type of action is normally taken by a desperate person trying to keep from going back to jail or by a person who has a violent history. So i propose that the state issue liscences, for a small fee, to individuals that do not have a violent or otherwise dangerous criminal history. This would allow people who want window tint and do not have a violent history to have it at whatever percentage they would like.
Anyway thats just my :2cents:

I just got a tint ticket myself the other day in my Honda. I bought the car with the tint already on it, and had no idea want precent it was, and explained this to the morrow city police officer. I even pull the tint off the window while the officer was running my license and insurance and the sob still wrote me a ticket. the funny thing is that a week earlier i got pull over by a douglas co sherriff becuase i forgot to stick my new tag on and did not have it with me, and he said nothing about the tag. I still have the warning from the sherriff and I am planning on going to court about this.
A question for you all. Do they have to check more than one spot?

I find it funny that people (the one who started this thread) will bitch when they break the law! Either way its still the law...if you dont break it then you dont have to worry about it!
I have a lot of speeding tickets, and I dont complain, because I know I have a lead foot. I have to go to court for another speeding ticket next month, and face either getting my license taken away, or a bery BIG FINE! But I am not going to bitch about it, because it was my fault.
IF YOU DO THE CRIME, YOU CAN DO THE TIME, OR PAY THE FINE!
Lame saying, but it's the truth...I mean if you want the tint, prepare sooner or later, to get a ticket.

This thread is hilarious, first off...the tint meter is correct, 500 times more accurate then the sample cards they would hold up and visually compare or the trick with holding a driver's license behind the glass and seeing if you can still read it...both are legal ways to "guesstimate" the tint. The tint law was and still is 32% plus or minus 3% on the front two window's, that's 32%...why 32% you ask? Because 2 to 3% is naturally blocked by glass. So for all you bitching about the meter being "off", you're the only thing off...that 1/4 inch of clear glass actually blocks some light. Plus what would it matter if the meter was inaccurate...even by as much as 10% for most of you...you're still 27% below the legal limit if you have 5% tint, lol...it's not like the fine is going to be any differant, whether it reads 3% or 20%.
A little history...the first tint law in georgia started in 1989...any car tinted before the date the bill was passed was excempt from the law. A couple years ago that 1989 law was fought and won on the basis it was unconstitutional to charge Georgia citizens but not out-of-state drivers entering Georgia with tint that was not legal under Georgia law.
Example: I have a couple friends from Indiana that have 20% on their black dually they use to pull the race trailer with, every single time (couple times a year to race at one of the local tracks) they come down I-75 and Georgia State Patrol would pull them over...not doing anything, obviosly in a race vehicle (number and name on trailer), yet they would still get pulled over solely for the window tint. Both the truck and trailer had Indiana tags as well and they simply said it's registered in Indiana, here's my license if you want to run it, fine, if you not then have a great day. Let go w/o tickets each time...went on for years and years, same thing over and over again.
Now, the law that was reinstated recently DOES apply to out-of state drivers, that's the only thing that was changed. It's bullshit, yes...why am I allowed to drive through Gwinnett County legally (where emmissions testing is required) if my car is registered in Hall County where there is no emmission testing??? Basically the exact same thing.

The exemption shall be issued with such conditions and limitations as may be prescribed by the Department of Public Safety.

Well mine were tinted 5% and I got pulled over. The ticket was 110$ but I went to the soliciters office and they droped the ticket.

it just bothers me when im stopped at a light, doing nothing...and he swings around as im turning, gets within an inch from hitting my car just for my tint. then he gets all touchy feely with my car....then gives me shit for my tag being dirty and my suspension...etc....then next thing you know, a boosted teg w/ what looks like 5 on the windows, almost slammed to the ground, comes screamin by....another civic after that the same thing. its not like i do anything to piss people off. i never just pull up next to someone and rev my shit or get on it just to let people hear my n1.

SPeedminded took care of most of the bull, but I guess some don't like to read.
(c) The provisions of subsection (b) of this Code section shall not apply to:
(6) The rear windshield or the side or door windows, except those windows to the right and left of the driver of:
(A) A multipurpose passenger vehicle;
(B) A school bus, any other bus used for public transportation, and any bus or van owned or leased by any religious or any nonprofit organization duly incorporated under the laws of this state;
(C) Any limousine owned or leased by a public or private entity; or
(D) Any other vehicle, the windows or windshields of which have been tinted or darkened before factory delivery or permitted by federal law or regulation; or
(7) Any law enforcement vehicle.
That means that any MPV (multiPurpose Vehicle) Van, SUV Truck, or vehicles with AWD, are not regulated behind the Driver. School Buses limo's and
LAW ENFORCEMENT VEHICLES period are not regulated.
Look we are not the only state with a Tint Law. Some states can't have tint period. Like PA. All automotive tempered glass has between 80%-70% VLT (visible Light Transmition) 70% is the min. that a car will come with from any manufacturer.

(g) Any person who violates subsection (b) or (e) of this Code section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
lets see how many misdemeanors I can rack up before they (courts, government) take action.
Driving is not a right but a privilege, it can be taken away.

Why do I even care….. just make the money you say ????
Well I have been in business for 8 years, I went through college working. I have a family that I alone support. So our livelihood depends on ME being able to stay in business. If our laws were to reflect something like PA’s laws then my business would be in jeopardy and that is something that I am willing to contribute to with illegal installs and disregard to the LAW.

my homeboy here in charlotte has 5% all the way around on his civic and he gets pulled all the time. but all he does is go to office depot, get a receipt book, and write out a fake receipt with a fake company name saying that the tint was removed. the DA just glances at the receipt and drops the ticket, no questions asked.

Tint laws for police protection:jerkit: It's a dangerous job, they know that when they CHOOSE to do it. Firefighters don't need laws about residential extinguishers, flamable material storage in homes, or houses built of wood because it burns and fails in fires. iirc seat belt laws is ga don't apply to trucks because of some "farm vehicle" nonsense. :2cents:

Ga code: 40-8-76.1. (a) As used in this Code section, the term 'passenger vehicle' means every motor vehicle designed to carry ten passengers or less and used for the transportation of persons but shall not mean pickup trucks, motorcycles, motor driven cycles, or vehicles equipped for off-road use, provided that the term 'passenger vehicle' includes any sport utility vehicle and also includes pickup trucks for any occupant who is under 18 years of age.

I could foresee this law falling under recension for the same reasons the tint laws did, they are unfairly enforced. Typically pickup trucks fall under a farm exemption, but given that not much of Ga is farm land anymore and the pickup isn't a utilliy vehicle anymore, the law is behind the times and is due for revision. Personally I never wear a seat belt (don't lecture me, I used to work in the 3rd busiest ER in the state), and I guess it's the illegal tint on my windows that keeps the police from noticing.

If you dont wear a seat belt that is your death certificate you are signing...but its your choice...and thanks for the update the seat belt law :)

good point as well!
But what happens if he demands that you roll up your windeows so he can test them?
And you refuse...that can be viewed as Obstruction of an Officer? Or what?

Well next time you get pulled over roll down your all windowsEver gotten away with that? Normally they'll ask for you to put them up if they see the rest of the windows being dark...i always tried to keep my sunroof open whenever i saw an officer, got pulled over for the tint many times but was never given a ticket until i got in roadblock specifically for tint and child safety seats.

it makes a pretty big difference in the darkness of the tint

my all windows do not roll down only the front ones and that rull only works for trucks and suv's. on cars all the windows have to be legal. so ur not fooling the cops. unless u have 35 on all ur windows and darker on the front ones.:2up:

hey yall georgia troop got me at 1% on varsity nite.................I had my windows down when he saw me...............so it seems like windows down or windows up they will stop u...............needless to say the tint is coming off............1
I already gotten a ticket about my tint also. But i kinda expect to because its limo tint. Yeah I know its my fucking fault. I had the tint put on when limo tent was legal. i was pulled over in hall county. The police officer said you car and you smell like marjuana. I said ok, he asked me if he could search my car. i said go ahead and search away I have nothing to hide. He searchs and finds nothing and then he gets the drug dog in the car and search it to attempt to find something the dog never does. I told him I just came from the bank and he didn't believe me. I went to go cash a check for my dad. i had my dad's ID and he said that i STOLE my dads id and his check. even though my id had the SAME last and middle name. The reason he probally didn't believe me is because. im half white and half asian. if you never knew that i was half asain half white you would never know that i was half white. I have the slanted eyes and the black hair....
Well next time you get pulled over roll down your all windows
I would if i could =D
