I have some issues, and I hope some of you who are mechanically inclined can help me out.
1. I recently changed the brake pads in my mom's car. Prior to changing the pads, the brake pedal was really soft.
2. I bleed all the lines, and the first time I did it, I didn't pay attention to the master cylinder and let it dry out.
3. I rebleed the whole thing again and when the car is off, the pedal get hard after a few pump.
4. The problem is, when I turn the car on, the pedal went soft again.

Do i need to change the master cylinder? The car has 155k miles, and I don't think my mom ever service the brakes at all. Should I try bleeding the master cylinder first before buying a new one?

You still have air in the lines!

did you properly grease the slide pins? I have had a car do this when they where siezed up in the caliper, could still have air, or a bad master cylinder.

I did put some anti seize on the pads. Anyway I can tell if it's a master cylinder issue?

if you pump the pedal several times does it firm up?

It has a brake booster, this is normal. When its running, if you pump the pedal several times does it firm up?

If it never pumps up then im gonna say you've still got air. even a bad MC or slide pin will firm up for a moment if you pump the pedal rapidly.

Sammich i havent had time to do it yet since i have to do it in the open road.

Ill try rebleeding it again this week with the right sequence and see. Wouldnt it be soft as well when the car is off if there's still air in it?

it would be soft but not near as soft as with the car running. if its absolutely hard as a rock with the key off and the pedal is high, then theres nothing wrong with it.

The pedal does go back up when the car is on. It's just goes all the way to the floor before the brake that effects..
Ill try to rebleed it again since I bleed it out of sequence. I don't think it will fix the problem though..than Ill try the video thing...

DO NOT use anti sieze to lubricate brake parts. Problem is, when the anti sieze gets hot, it tends to stiffen up and can still cause sticking problems. I use only synthetic brake lube.
