5th gear is steadily going bad. 3rd will be next. Then 2nd.... Then 4th.... Pretty soon you'll be driving 5 miles in first gear cuz your tranny is stuck pulling a train behind you all the way home... Well, this is what happened to my old Camry.... But your situation might be different. Are you certain the tranny was a good one before you put it in?

i would say slave is leaking down or bypassing, 5th is a hard transition to match the gears and let it "fall" into place.

i would suggest you to buy some penzoil syncromesh and use it, i say that because i had mobil 1 synthetic gear oil in my transmission and out of no were my 3rd started to make a grinding noise and i went ahead and drained the transmission fluid and put some syncromesh and its a big difference, maybe it wont fix your problem but it wont hurt to try.
