I need help choosing between these two motors the DOHC f20b from the sir-t( the one with type s valvetrain and cams) or jdm h22a for just a daily with bolt ons. Is there any differences between them, except the displacement and what the cylinder walls are made of? are all the parts interchangeable? sorry im in a rush and will add on more later.

Parts shouldn't be interchangeable. I'd go with the H22 simply for it's aftermarket abundance and ease of replacement parts.

Alot of parts are interchangable. The Pros to a f20b is iron sleeves, type s VT and cams, can rev to 9k factory. Cons are smaller valves( i think) less stroke and bore.

Previous statement retracted.
Wasn't aware of the similarities.

Parts are interchangable man. F20b comes with type s cams and type s valve train which is worth as much as the motor is . You could blew it up part out the head and not lose one dime lol. It has 85mm pistons and imm smaller intale valves . It also has 11.1 compression from the factory and iron sleeves . It has the new style lmas and 55mm main bearings. Motor is built to take a beating. Mine ran 13.5 bone stock in a heavy si hatch. All my h22 ran 13.5 bone stock in the same hatch . Only difference is tourqe.
The h22 has a 87mm bore and frm sleeves. You cant run forged pistons in the frm sleeves but they run cooler and last for ever . Mahle pistons work great and are good to around 400hp. The h22 has imm over sized intake valves from the f20b and the actual combustion chamber is wider for the 87mm bore.
It all comes down to what you wanting to do and what your goals are . If youn tell me that i can tell you which one better suites you and why . Honestly for the money and better power down the road the h23 vtec is the best bang for the buck right now . Check up on it.

i just want a daily with bolt ons and maaybe some cams later on the road and thats it, dont wanna touch the bottom end. but ive read some of your posts that you can run more aggressive cams on type s valve train and so if that is true i just wanted to throw some cams on the f20b. i would love to go with the h23a vtec but unfortanatly they are out of stock on hmotors. trying to get a motor in two weeks
oh and this is going to be with a QSD kit with b16 tranny

I would be real curious to see what a f20b ran with a b series tranny . Make sure you get a five speed motor . The auto motors cost alot less but they dont have type s cams or valve train .

Tiger Japanese has them all day long for $1006 shipped to your door. Placed the order for mine on a Monday, order processed on Tuesday, and picked it up Friday the same week.

I've heard bad things about HMO :dunno: It's all your choice. I am happy so far with what I have and will probably order from TJ again.

never heard one bad thing about hmotorsonline. are you sure youre talking about the same place? My H22 came from them, i am not even the original owner, beat the piss out of this thing for about 5 years now, and while I have had a couple scares where I thought something was wrong with it, it always tunred out to be something else.
