I have a 1998 honda civic ex. My car is obd2a. d16y8 motor
I'm looking at getting a 2000 honda civic ex d16y8 but it is obd2b.
From what i understand there is two wires that are missing in the engine harness to the harness that goes in the car. Rpm gauge and something else. what would i have to do to get the harness to work in my car?
With the obd2b harness the tach will not work, i will not be able to read engine codes, reverse lights will not work, and the radiator fan will not work.
what is the easiest solution?

Couldn't you just run the two wires and use an OBD2B ECU?

i was going to use that ecu and that harness, but how would i run the wires and where?

Sounds similar to running VTEC wires on a non-VTEC car...just run a wire or two from sensor to the point on the ECU. Find a pin out chart for the ECUs you are working with.

Others will know a lot more than me but that's what it sounds like.

i'm not trying to run it to the ecu; i'm trying to run it to the car. but i don't think that the dizzy has the wire that i need to run so i'm kinda stumped on this. and i can't use the obd2a dizzy because it will not plug into the obd2b harness.

i have the obd2a engine harness but it has been cut up so i don't really want to use it, would it just be easier to just use the obd2a ecu and harness on this motor?

One of these may help :dunno:

OBD2 harness (http://www.boomslang.us/obd2to2.htm)

that's mad expensive. it would be easier and cheaper if i just switched the motor to obd2a. also one more question, is there any differences other than the harness between the 99-00 motor and the 96-98 motor.

yes you will need 96-98 harness the plugs on the car are not the same, the newer y8 will drop right in yes the dizzy plug is diffrent, just use the harness/ecu/ dizzy that the car came with
