my b18b1 wont stay running, i put the timing belt on it yesterday go to crank it for the first time and it cranks, (getting spark and fuel) rpms go to 2k then it shuts off. its nuts. i had a beemer i bought for $120 that did this, i never figured it out.
okay so lemme start by asking what is the sensor on top of the manifold? not the tps on the throttle body and not the map sensor!! its got a nipple for a vacuum line, but no line going into it, i wonder if this is why she wont stay running.

so is this where that line needs to go?
could it be a bad map sensor?
any other ideas would be appreciated.
also wen it cranks for those five seconds i can rev it a little.
could it still be a tooth off? the crank was lined up perfect as well as the exhaust cam, the intake cam wanted to shift a bit, i lined the camshaft holes up with some screwdrivers but the intake cam had a tiny bit of play so i held it with a twelve wrench and the belt just slipped right on. so this is why i think my timing is pretty much set on, i looked at it again and the two divits in the cam gear line up right below the notch on the plastic at TDC.
SORRY FOR THE BOOK

That all runs to the charcoal canister, which of course is missing.
turn it on and hold it at 3k rpm, and listen to what it could be

i try to hold it but it cuts itself off, when it cuts off it sounds almost like its stubling over it self, like bluh bluh bluh haha if that helps
yeah i figured it was to the charcoal canister, i have an extra one tho

do you mean the sensor thats missing the line runs to the canister?

Yeah, the line that is missing runs to the charcoal canister. Was the timing belt all you've done to this car? What condition was it in before you touched it?

the car had the timing belt off, it was pretty much on time when i got it, are you insinuating i have some possible bent or chipped valves?
i should probably check, dont wanna, i would like to narrow everything down before i take the head off.
im going to do a compression test on it tomorrow morning.

yes it connects to the charcoal canister.

that hose connect to the sensor your pointing at. BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, YOUR CANISTER IS DELETED.
its fine, you can run without it. <<< lose gas mileage. wont cause your car to die or idle weird.
im come to conclude your more than likely off timming.
i would suggest running a compression test first to see if there is any bent/burnt/dropped/chip etc etc valve(s)
if it turns out fine, go back to timming ( you could be 180 degree off )

awesome thanks for the help, and yes comp test in the morning, i been researching a ton like always.
180degrees off? can you put that in a nutshell? crank was lined up, and both cams were in their up position, both were set at TDC

the head rotate 2 times before the crank make 1 rotate from what i understand. in which you can be 180 degree off

yeah i believe your right, everythings set at TDC so i should be good, didnt get to check anything today cause of freaking work. tomorrow morning i shall run the comp test and recheck timing

Use a timing light. Took mine for a nitrous tune today and found out my crank pulley was off. Everything was dead center but the mark was off. I was 2 teeth off. Felt no different while driving but show a 20-25 wheel power difference on the dyno after we corrected the timing! I didn't retard the timing for nitrous if anyone is wondering. 50 shot dosnt nesserly need a retarded timing.
