Well folks. I am the one who acquired his shell and am currently in the process of rebuilding it. Here is the progress so far, and will update as time goes on. I'm almost ready to drop in the engine/tranny!

Here is Motivation's GSX next to my GSX, right after I towed it home. I decided to pick his up because it is cleaner and ACTUALLY has a title!

Its annoying, but if you take your time and see where each wire leads, it works its self out rather quickly!

Glad someone caught that =P Its what we do! Cant get it off? Cut it off! (Insert dirty joke here)

Well I plan on building this right to where it wont need anything at all! Not even carrying around tools (Which I will anyways... Cause its a DSM) My ultimate goal is to run 11's and deliver pizzas the next day in it

Thanks everyone!

More done day, but nothing that was picture worthy.
- Converted to non-cruise control throttle cable
- Extended the alternator plug wires to the back of engine bay
- replaced some nasty looking fuses
- Installed clutch cut for DSMLink

Still need to be done:
Buy more jackstands because I need more than 1
Need to swap axles over from red to gold car
Drain oil and tranny fluid but my pan is full
Pull engine
Swap motor mounts over into Gold car
Swap Oil filter housings to a forward facing one (It came in the mail today)
4 bolt rear end swap
Driveshaft install

THEN::::
PLAY WITH DSMLINK!

Fack I am tired! So far I went tool shopping, pulled axles out, and removed the engine. I am stuck on removing the oil filter housing now. It's been a day off of Pain in the asses. Onto the pics so far.

Pulled axles out ( 1st PITA)
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z181/Scrapymetaldsm/Project%20Swap/Project037.jpg

Slowly pulling the engine out. Checking for snag's.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z181/Scrapymetaldsm/Project%20Swap/Project038.jpg

1st snag. Alternator caught on Brake Master Cylinder. have to drop it back down some and swivel it.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z181/Scrapymetaldsm/Project%20Swap/Project039.jpg

Oh wait! My damn engine lift is broken and once you lower it just a hair, it wont go back up! So what do I have to do? lower the engine back in all the way, Pull engine lift out, lower it completely. then re-raise it and hook the strap back up
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z181/Scrapymetaldsm/Project%20Swap/Project040.jpg

2nd attempt...
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z181/Scrapymetaldsm/Project%20Swap/Project041.jpg

SUCCESS!
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z181/Scrapymetaldsm/Project%20Swap/Project042.jpg

Getting that bitch back in the gold car will be a precision drop. There wasnt ANY wiggle room whatsoever! Granted the angle the motor got lifted out at didnt help. But I had to do the best I could with what I had to work with.

that engine hoist would work alot better if you pull the lift are out!

ScrapMetalDSM
12-28-2009, 04:06 PM
Well the problem with that is that it then hits the top of the garage door opening and i cant get it out! I think I may need to bleed the lift, because once I lower it just a tad, it wont go back up, and i have to start completely over!

Thanks catnip. I lub you too :) no homo...

Wow the guy you got the car from absolutely trashed it. One of my buddies owned the car a while back and it was in fantastic condition at that time.

Trashed it, huh?

Let's see, I had actual Evo 8 recaro seats in there, different wheels, was ALWAYS kept clean, got props EVERYWHERE I went with the car. I cleaned this car up even more from when your buddy had it. Promise you that. You can ask anyone that has seen this car in person when it was on the road. Remember, it's been being parted out for 8 months. The gauges were hanging out like that because the wideband was sold to someone else. Actually, the OP, is the one that pulled it out.

I love how everyone thinks the car is supposed to stay in prestine condition when being parted out. He got this car at a HELL of a deal, I lost my ass on this car. I easily put 2-3k with in the first month I had it, doing stuff to it. (ask "catnip", "flipking", or anyone else that knows me)

Anyways, Michael, props on what you are doing with it. Went to a great guy. Wish I could have kept it, but it definitely went to a good guy. :goodjob:

Tim (Motivation) is right. He ALWAYS kept that car clean. He was always upgrading or repairing the car. When I sold it to Tim, I got compliments EVERYWHERE I went. Tim made it even better.

Eh its all good. Gives me motivation (haha, see what I did thur?) to clean this car up and get her on the road!

As for its condition. Let me say that for sitting outside unwashed for 8+ months while being parted out. It still looks damn good in my opinion.Just needs a wash and wax thats all. As for the wheels - they are better than the steelies that were on it when I first looked at it. A fresh coat of paint on 'em and they'll look good as new. Or Ill put on my Borbet's. havent decided yet. Im not complaiing. You cant expect a fresh washed and waxed shell with perfect wheels

Okay, So I got the engine in the gold car and mounted! Now just to put the axles in, and hook everything up, and wait for my new clutch line and slave cylinder I ordered to arrive. I tell ya - that rear mount is a Bitch! Also yesterday, I didnt like the look of the main power wire from the battery. The one with 3 fuses on it. So I cut it off and wired in mine from the red car. I STILL have to wire in the coolant temp sensor plugs. Also waiting on the tach adapter from DSMChips.com so I can use my tach with a 91 ECU

Not gonna happen on my car.

Damn its cold ou there today! I could only get so much done before my hands went numb and was unable to wrench, so Im back inside thawing out. Fixed the throttle cable issue... It was wrapped around the bar on the pedal assembly. Doh! Got everything connected in the engine bay minus the thermostat plugs which I still have to wire in. I also noticed that 2 or 3 of the fuel injector plugs are broken, so I will have to wire in my plugs from the red car as well. Joy! I was hoping to put the axles in today, but I kept finding other stuff to do and pushing that off. Also, I got sick and tired of blowing coolant caps on the thermostat housing since I am not running coolant to the throttle body or the turbo. So I looped a high pressure hose hoping to alleviate that problem.

Not much visually has changed but here's a pic since people seem to like them!

I wish i had the time/balls to play with something like this. I need to get some tips on wiring from you, lol. Do you have one of those drill adapter things that braids the wires?

ScrapMetalDSM
01-02-2010, 01:26 PM
No I dont. But you dont need an adapter to do it. just stick the ends of the wire in a vice, and the other end to the drill. Pull tight and turn on the drill. However I didnt braid the line that you saw, it came braided. I just zip tied everything together neatly and what not to make it look good. But if you have any Q's about wiring, just PM me and I'll help ya with what I can

Brake swap from red car to gold car
Trim front bumper support to fit the intercooler
Rear End swap
New Tires

Ya know. I was really hoping the car would start today. I got it to turn over, but thats as far as I got. Its throwing a Coolant temp sensor circuit malfunction code, which is because the coolant temp sensors arent plugged in. Well one of them is. The other are missing plugs and I dont know what wire goes to which sensor. Bah! I'm guessing that coolant temp circuit malfunction is why the car isnt starting. Damnit its the small crap that'll keep ya down!
