its not driving yet but its running so im extremely happy. all the hard work paid off. my first swap too. lol couldnt do it without my buddies though. :goodjob:

as far as i know this is one of the first K-swapped BF chassis 323's in the states. (just going by researching internet and forums..lol)

Might be the only one in the world with this swap. But why isn't it driveable yet?

You following the build on FF.com? Dude has one going in his festiva(first document build of a v6 Festy), and it is funny because you guys are like neck and neck with your builds. I think he is about to roll it out of the garage like today or something.

Looks good. Builds like yours make me seriously want to go find another festiva and build one up.

Believe me, I would. It is just a full time job trying to find a festiva that is worth-while anymore. I wish I didn't sell my cream-puff 88L a couple years back for that very reason.

ok so i got the temp gauge working. it was just that i had not let it run long enough for the temp gauge to even move..lol. but right as it got to running temp and i shut it off, i leaned over the engine bay to release the pressure off the cap and my custom top hose busted off the reducer and sprayed hot coolant all over my face, eyes, and mouth. needless to say im in pain. so now i sit here and type to you will aloe all over my face. lol

but i learned my lesson. when you think its tight enough, tighten it more.

i think that i might have figured out the vibration problem. i thought it was my wheel bearing but i asked around on another forum and i think it could be my axle binding up.

for those of you who dont remember this is what it looks like. squished.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i143/Yankee4life91/SDC10764.jpg

i bought a kia sephia 1.8L BP axle off the forums. this axle is about an inch shorter but it supposed to have the same splines on both ends. an inch might not sound like much but could be all the difference! hopefully it fixes the problem! :goodjob:

DeeAOne
04-01-2010, 12:51 PM
not yet. im going to get it running with these "temporary axles" first. then i can drive it while i save up for a nice set. for it to work it would probably have to be higher than stock height and thats not going to happen. lol

DeeAOne

im sure the bearings have seen better days, but as bad as it shakes, it has to be more than just the wheel bearings. they do have some side to side movement.

BUT, i have another issue. i was just driving after a little first gear fun when all of the sudden it started to miss. not to bad but when its under load i can hear/feel it. i immediately shut it off and coasted into my driveway. pulled the plugs and this is what i found. every single cylinder looks lean.

This is a VERY cool build man. I've owned way more MX6's than I care to admit so I'm pretty familiar with Mazda piston engines. I've always found the KL to be a very lacking engine in terms of performance considering it is a 2.5L V6 but I know how much fun they can be (in an MX6 which is heavier!). I can imagine this thing is an absolute blast to drive. NOW IT NEEDS A TURBO. :D

05-02-2010, 01:10 AM
That might explain the lifter tick...my head might have not been getting enough oil. I thought it was just common with Mazda heads because my old b6 did it too.

Get a chip for the de ecu. Also dont use FRAM oil filters..There known for causing oil problems..My bro oil light was flicking @ idle, turn out it was the fram oil filter. You need a lightweight flywheel in that car!!!lol

yeah i do have a fram..guess ill look into getting a new one. thanks. and where would i get my chip put in at? im new to that stuff..

im using an oem mx3 K8 flywheel. i need to hook up an oil pressure gauge so i dont have a repeat of the DE.

Siverprobegt

mx3 flywheel is pretty good.Check out probinator chip on probetalk or mx6.com...U aint feeling shit, without the proper ecu!!!LOL

Everyone knows someone who has had trouble with some kind of oil filter. Fram does not make bad oil filters. You can get higher quality ones, but running Fram won't hurt a damn thing.

Siverprobegt
05-16-2010, 12:29 AM
I know 5 people that had problems with fram filters.Thats enough for me..

SKarpenz

Again, everyone knows someone who has had trouble with some kind of oil filter. Unless you are running some ridiculous oil pressure (200+psi?) then Fram is as good as any other. I watched a demo of a Royal Purple oil filter last to a burst pressure of like 450psi. I lawl'd all over myself.

EDIT

I don't want to start a shit storm so I'll stop.

do you guys think that is legit? or just one of these fakes..?

SKarpenz

More than likely its a fake. Stick with what Siverprobegt suggested. I have bought and used a couple of Probinator's chips and his are the real deal.

alright thanks for the info.

went and did a little driving. everything seems to be ok except one thing. i checked the coolant when i got home and there seems to be little copper colored pieces floating in it..im going to do a flush and see if they come back. i havent flushed it since the got the new motor. any ideas...?

SKarpenz
05-16-2010, 12:52 PM
Sounds like someone has used some type of radiator/block/head sealant in the cooling system. Flush it really well, and maybe more than once. Good luck bro.

You should be quicker than this....

BTW, what year KLZE did you order? I see you got the straight neck. It's been proven that the straight neck makes more top end while the curve neck makes better midrange. If you happen to hear a ticking noise coming from the engine, pull over immediately and check it out.

The ZE's have weak valve springs and excessive revving will crack them. The noise will sound similar to a stuck lifter. It happened to me. I replaced my valve springs out with the slightly stronger DE springs. No other valvetrain issues since.

DeeAOne
05-17-2010, 12:23 AM
I had really bad lifter tick on the DE. Could have possible been a spring because the exhaust sounded like a Subaru when it did tick under the hood. And it never really went away..

No tick on the ZE except first start up so I assumed that was just the lifter not lubricated yet.

And i'm insure of the year..I think it's got much more in it though. I found a great deal on a kl31 ecu and je50 vaf combo. That I will be picking up this week.

Siverprobegt
05-17-2010, 12:38 AM
it will run a little rich with that ecu ,but it will be quicker than how it running right now!Let me know when you install it!

Siverprobegt, is the kl36 ecu any better..?

kl36 is a jdm ze ecu..Anything is better than the 1.8 ecu,lol..GET IT!!

DeeAOne
