Yeap, I would lawyer up, but honestly there won't be much you can do about it. Cities have nice laws in place to either make it impossible or incredibly hard to sue them. You might get them paying for your car out of it but I doubt anything more. I see you won, help me with my theory and tell us what you won. i'm interested to know.

Just go to a police maintenance shop and look at all the wrecked cars...there's one right next to the detention center in Gwinnett County. I had a female friend get hit by a female officer in Suwanee, about the same damage as the BMW and they paid the repairs and rental car.

Glad you won man. Nice to know if I get hit by a cop that cant drive, I can get it taken care of. I was honestly scared for a minute. They say cops are highly trained drivers, but I've definitely seen otherwise. About a week ago, over by me, some Acworth cops came flying out of a restaurant parking lot and made a high speed U-turn in the rain. One cop pulled the drift off quite well, the other one ended up doing almost a 360 and going over the median into the other lane of traffic. Scary stuff
