View Full Version : what is the differance in thermostat temps?

i need to replace mine and they have diff temps , 170 180 192 , could i please get an explanation on why they have the 3 diff ones , and which one should i get? (93 prelude w F22B1) thanx in advance:goodjob:

the temp ratings is basically when the thermostat pops open. i personally always use the coldest one available just to keep the engine a little cooler.

Doing so will decrease fuel mileage slightly as well.

and sometimes make the engine skip a beat also.... Because some need to run OEM temps or it will run richer ...
If its OBDII it can kick a check engine light on (CEL) for operation temp below spec
170 is normal temp for hondas
its just when you go to Autozone they have other listings, because if you lived in Alaska you want to run the 195 .. But out in GA you run 170

Use the OEM t-stat.Your car needs the temp to go into closed loop. Or your ECU will set a code.

What ever your car is tuned for and if it is a factory ecu then you should use the factory temp themostat.
