Totally new to the honda world as some of you may have already seen, (sorry for invading your club's section btw), but anyone have some sort of manual or how to for a d series swap?

Yes I've heard it's as easy as legos, but still, I'm a newbie and I'd be more comfortable if I had some sort of direction.

Thanks guys.

Aside from the links to the factory service manual, there's not much for a guide that I know of for a d-series swap. Most D-series are basically drop in swaps. Some bracketry might need to be changed, but the blocks didn't change over the engine's life.

If you're going to use a d16a6, you'll have to do the DPFI to MPFI swap. It's not too difficult and there's a crap load of info on the net about that swap. Other than that a d16a6 drops right in.

here's the problem i came upon. should i go for a d16z6, have vt4k and have to work some extra wiring or should i just stay stock, d15a6, sacrifice the might vtak, pay a little more for the motor with less miles?

d16-150, 160k miles - $350 + whatever for harness and ecu
d15-50k miles - $525 no extra costs.

im really leaning towards the d15 since its got less miles...

Can I have the d15 instead? lol I'd go with the 1.5 man....
Z6 are shweet, but 50k is a brand new motor and its still gunna be quicker than dual point!

BTW... where ya getting a full Z6 (with tranny???) besides harness n ecu for $350 er whatever?

Ed
06-22-2009, 03:46 PM
well, apparently mine is dual point.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q313/yslbtt/Honda/IMG_3663.jpg

but speed is not the concern here, i have the evo, its mostly the price.

but yeah the 1.5 sounds like a better deal.

no tranny. is that a lot for it? im out of the loop when it comes to the honda market. if you want it, i can refer you to the seler. he knows i may be going the other direction.

^ yeah, I knw yours is dual piont fa'sho... but yeah man, the 1.5 sounds great.

uh, 350 dnt sound too bad for a nice Z6... I might rather spend a lil more for a SOHC ZC with tranny and perhaps less miles though.

is it really that much of a pain in the ass to convert from obd0 to obd1? a lot of rewiring and shit?

Yeah, if ya got the evo, who needs any more speed? k swap = $$$$

...but if ya got the cash, k swap = Gangsta (in a foe doe even more gangsta)

Get yo self a 1st gen b16! that be fun DD and not too expensive

a k swap is like 5-6k right?

yeah thats a lot of money i can dump in the evo and make it a lot more faster than a k series ever would

I think I have a right side mirror. It was painted at one time, though, and a little ugly.

IMO, the OBD0 to OBD1 swap isn't *that* hard. It's much simpler if you have a conversion harness from Rywire; it makes the ecu part plug and play. The Rywire harness also has some extra wiring for the additional stuff for the OBD1/VTEC connections. You will have to do some rewiring on the distributor harness, though.

Also, going to the Z6 will require the MPFI swap, which really isn't that hard. You don't need the Z6 engine harness, however. The swap involves running some new wires and depinning/repinning the ecu harness.

The Z6 will be a noticeable improvement over the d15b2. Hell, just the MPFI swap will wake that b2 up a lot. The ultimate choice lies in how much you want to rework wiring and what not.

You do know an EF with a stock K20 would out run a stock evo right ;)

My suggestion to you is to check out Rywire.com That will take the headache out of wiring from dpfi to mpfi then obd0 to obd1. As for installing the motor, it goes in the same way the old came out LOL. Just search for vacuum diagrams of 92-95 civic ex and you should be good to go.

my evo isnt stock.

i decided to just keep the stock motor so i wont have to convert obd0 to 1.

plus im getting a 50k miles motor, should last a good while.

I would suggest doing a mpfi swap and finding a ZC or Si tranny if you're going to keep the stock motor. All you would need to do that is a complete intake manifold from a 88-91 Si/EX, resistor box, 88-91 Si ECU, and a converted harness ebay harness (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-91-HONDA-CIVIC-CRX-DPFI-TO-MPFI-HARNESS-CONVERSION_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a12Q7c6 6Q3a2Q7c39Q3a1Q7c72Q3a1205Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q 7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQha shZitem2c4fb71588QQitemZ190315959688QQptZMotorsQ5f CarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories) (or subharness)
