An odd thing happens. I've been working as a technician at a local high school here, and a small gaggle of local kids have developed who follow me around. Mostly they drop by my office to discuss techstuff, or look up games or ask me what I've done to my car, but one in particular has strongly attached himself. He's a good kid, and I'm just trying to steer him in the right direction.

Anyway, his car is on its last legs and he's looking for a new "project car". A good buddy of mine has an old stock 92 GSX eclipse , with automatic tranny. Normally I would say NO to selling a vehicle like this to someone so young, but with it being automatic, what harm can he do? Anyway, what is your stance on giving/selling young people vehicles with performance potential such as this?

My fear is that he will wrap himself around a tree, but the auto tranny in this car will keep it from going too fast. He's fairly mechanically inclined so I know he can take care of it and works at a junkyard after school, so parts won't be a problem. He's not rich, so I know mommy or daddy won't go tossing him a new gt35r and a set of rods to kill himself. I just don't want the kid wrapping himself around a tree in a car I gave my blessing for him to own....

Offer it to him. I doubt he will even buy it.

Why would you say NO to selling a 92 GSX Eclipse to a 17yr old kid if it had a manual tranny?! Thats like the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The car is no means FAST anyways.... So its like me saying I wouldn't sell a stock manual civic to a 17yr old kid. Just sell the kid the car and don't worry so much. I understand the worrying some... but gezzzz.... if its your time its your time. Can't no one change that but the big man upstairs.

he will be alright.. if hes gonna drive reckless, he will do it anyway. Regardless of what he owns!

^Agree with everyone above. You can drive recklessly in any kind of car. I've had cars that can get me into trouble since I was 16, and I've never so much as gotten a speeding ticket (knock on wood). Just depends on the kid.

I would not sell a 17 year old my Integra...but a 1st Gen DSM with a Auto should be fine......I am sure he will mod it but that is where you get to help the kid be smart LOL.....take him under your wing........
