Motor oil is a lubricant, Transmission fluid is hydraulic fluid.

EDIT: Thought you were talking about ATF.

well im guessing that its a manual tranny and "transmission fluid" = gear oil.

Yeah tranny fluid is a hydaolic and a cleaner, you can clean parts with tranny fluid. You can't do that with oil. Dude don't fuck ya tranny up.......

I saw only one or two good responses.

Just rean 80 or 90w gear oil. Of any brand. I for a while ran the cheapest gear oil I could find and had no problems.

Now, having a good job, I run NOTHING but royal purple and lucas products.

Switching mostly to Lucas now, however I got gains all across the board with Royal Purple.

you CAN run motor oil in the trans, none of the 10w-30 crap. Just run SAE 30 or something to that effect no "number W" in it. Otherwise stick with gear oil.

what an IDIOT!. dont put that junk in the transmission. Honda made MTF for a reason, USE IT!, it is about $4.xx a quart. Buy 3, use what you need and have leftovers.

Honda/Acura uses Motor oil in there Gear boxes, if you use Gear oil it will eat the brass in the tranny, also if you use automatic fluid it will do the same!

Either use
1qt GM Syncro mesh with 1 qt 10w40 motor oil
or use
Honda fluid its 5 bucks quart

I use the regular MOBILE 1 10W40 with no issues and I rebuild them and never a issue!

NEVER USE
Automatic fluid or Gear oil!!!!

ok lets get this straight. dont use motor oil, atf, or whatever. Either use honda oem mtf fluid from the dealership. if u plan on high revvin all the time like we do, most def use gm synchrmesh!! its the best stuff out there for our application. here is the part number. 12345349. its like 12 bux a quart not 25. also the synchromesh at autozone is not the same. that stuff is brown lookin while the real gm stuff is burgandy. i rather pay the extra buxs to make sure it right.
