View Full Version : Has anyone ever been hurt at school?

Serious thread please. I need to know what I should do. The school gave me the run around today to find out information on this.

I was injured on campus, because of uneven pavement which is neglect on their part. If someone is injured at my parent's shop, they have to pay for it. I feel that since I was injured at school, that they should pay for it. I filed a campus police report on it. The health center on campus told me to go to the emergency room. This was a few weeks ago.

I went to the doctor (on campus) today and they told me I need to go to an orthopedic. My foot isn't getting better. It hurts more and more each day.

So how should I go about this? I mean I don't know who to talk to. I went to at least five people today on campus and they pointed me to another person. I can't be doing all that walking. Is it really that smart to make an injured person walk around that much? Esp. a person injured where you are making them walk?

Oops.

I did go to the emergency room a few weeks ago when they told me to. Been in an ortho boot, ankle brace, and crutches since.

then when i went today, they told me to go to an orthopedic, because it doesn't seem to be healing right.

you do realize if you dont sue and they dont pay that you will have to pay the lawyer in most cases...just making sure you know this. lawyer wants to sue to make his 30% of the awarded $ in the case....

make sure you let them know about this other case if it was a big deal, that might reflect badly if you have to go to court depending on what it was for especially if it was another personal injury case

and i'm sorry but you're parents dont want to talk to you about this why???? :2cents:

just called more people from the school. they directed me to this doas.gov website or whatever. you have to call the claim and fax the claim. so i go to call the place, they send me the run around on the whole office i guess. i finally get to talk to someone, come to find out, the school has to file this accident.

so the lady told me she'll call up student affairs tomorrow. maybe i'll get some answers tomorrow.

if not, i'm calling a lawyer next week.

You said the parking lot wasn't well lit. Doesn't that mean since you know this ahead of time...you look down where your walking so you can manage to skip over anything that might cause anyone a foot issue? I'm not insulting you. But it might be better to post a photo of what exactly you are talking about so people can see and understand what exactly happen, in terms of what the pavement, and crack, ect looks like.

i said in the thread, i've already stated i went to the emergency room. so anything you say is invalid.

by uneven pavement, i meant huge cracks in the parking lots when one was big enough for my foot to get caught. i don't think every parking lot has cracks in it, just the old ones.

They don't, but there's also no law saying your parking lot has to be 'idiot-proof' for people who are unable to pay attention to where they're walking...

i think it would have a shot as a case. You could at least talk to a lawyer, maybe settle it outside of court. if the parking lot was poorly lit it could also be a safety issue.... at least you could have your medical bills and lawyer fees paid...

Also .... to all you guys out there.....if you are girl and wear heels on a reg basis... you actually can trip while walking correctly... it sucks... and makes you look stupid.... but it can hurt, and sprain your ankle... etc.

yeah, i mean, it was poorly lit. i been walking the same spot for the whole semester. so you know after a few months, i'm not going to carefully step the whole, ya know?

i have really good balance. my foot got caught in a crack (like the crack was big enough for my foot to get caught in) and i fell on top of my foot. think about if their was an old lady at the same parking lot? she could have broke a hip or something.

i need to go see a foot doctor. there might be something wrong with the ligaments in my foot. the only thing i want to paid for is my doctor bills. that's all i ask for.

FUCK1NG STUPID ASS

i'm not complaining. i just want my doctor bills taken care of. if someone falls in my parent's parking lot, they have to pay. i figure the same should happen to the school.

the student hospital on campus told me to see a foot doctor. so i'm going to set up an appt tomorrow. it has been a few weeks and it hasn't healed and hurts worse than before.

rest, ice, compression, elevation. do that every day and it'll get better. ligaments tear and they take months to heal properly. trust me, i make it my job to sprain ankles and twist knees on a regular basis.

you've got a weakass case but talk to a lawyer, like has been said on here. they'll let you know if you have a good enough case to continue, if not claim it on your insurance. or go to your school health center and demand pain meds, either eat them or sell them and make a bunch of money. the latter at least puts cash in your pocket.

If you're in college then aren't you still on your parents medical insurance? Go get your foot fixed and let them foot::pun intended: the bill, if you don't have a job then they can't expect you to pay. And if it just isn't that simple and this has really been going on for months as it seems then all you doing is screwing yourself over by not starting the legal process. Just my advice on the matter.

wow this case will never win. Im sorry but this shit had me loling so hard. Holy fawking shit your gonna sue the school because it has uneven pavement? YOURE NOT GOING TO WIN!!!!!!!!! YOU DUMB SHIT!!!! That's like saying I'm gonna sue G-Net for shitty road and it damaged my rims....are you STUPID? THAT WILL MAKE THE JUDGE LAUGH AT YOU AND HE"S GOING TO TELL THE ENTIRE COURTROOM TO LAUGH AT YOUR DUMB ARSE!!
HAHAH

Funny thing is you can get compensated for bent wheels due to shitty roads. I know a guy who bent two wheels on his lexus, so he took pictures of where it happened, sent all the repair bill and was reimbursed.

Problem with her case is like you said, as a University you don't have to warn of dumb things like uneven payment. If there was a damn 4 ft. hole or something then yeah you have a case, but not being coordinated is not something a Uni can prevent.

If it was dangerous they would have to give warning but honestly how many times do you see signs warning for individuals like Autumn

"WARNING UNEVEN PAYMENT, IF YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY UNCOORDINATED, PARTIALLY RETARDED, OR AN IA ATTENTION WHORE WALK WITH CAUTION"

my parents have self-pay insurance, which means it is nothing. we don't think it is going to cover my emergency room visit. i'm going to a foot specialist tomorrow, and i know for a fact insurance won't cover that.

my parents have paid over $2000 in medical bills for me already in the past two months.

it hasn't been going on that long.

the parking lot was barely lit, like i said before.

i've been through the said parking lot several times, like i said before.

because of that, i didn't look where i was going, like i said before.

i didn't trip, my foot got stuck in the crack, like i said before.

i didn't know my foot was stuck, so i kept walking, like i said before.

i'm sorry but i don't think the university should be allowed to have cracks big enough for my foot to get stuck. what if an old woman had been walking there? she could have easily fell and broke a hip.

but whatevs, i found the information finally to file a claim. if they don't call me within a few weeks, since it is holidays and all, i'm going to start taking legal action.

The fact that you said you've been walking there all semester is all the reason needed for you to not have fallen. Well lit or not, pay attention when you're walking and things like this won't happen. I don't know about you, but when I'm walking places I notice things that might cause me to fall...such as cracks big enough for my foot. You were obviously aware of the cracks and never worried enough to mention them to the school earlier. Seeing as any reasonable person would have been aware of the cracks after walking through the area as much as you and would be cautious enough to avoid injury...I think you're fucked. I kind of hope so too, no one else should be responsible for an injury that could have been prevented by YOU.

make a scene, show up to school, park in the handicap place, and go to class on a wheel chair....

(would be even better if a lawyer wheeled your pitiful ass in)
