View Full Version : Logical Thinking...

So I was thinking about the Mustang. I love the car to death, and it's affordable, but it's got me tighter on money than I wanna be due to insurance and gas, mostly, but also, obviously, the car payment.
I'm halfway considering trading it in. I'm trying to think of a logical yet fun ass car to possibly swap over to.
Cars I've considered:
IS300
Saab 9-3
BMW 3-series
I don't like the 3series idea because of the higher mileage it would likely have. The 9-3 and IS3 I really like because they're fun, comfortable, nice, better gas mileage, reliable, and pretty damn importantly...4doors...
Thoughts? Other suggestions?

Obviously the Saab is out. Due to insurance and car payments and gas. I personally like the IS, though I have no info on what that'll cost as well. I'll leave the BMW out of the equation, cuz u cant divide anything into 0

...you just made no sense...
The saab is out? I'd be paying less on the ones I've found than I am for the mustang. And the gas mileage isn't bad that I've found. The BMW is affordable, but would have around like 80-90K on the odo.

3 series for sure you could squeeze into a 96 and up m3 easily with your trade in

Is300s are pretty $$$ for a good one, we had one at toyota black on black 5spd with gray wheels and they wanted 22k for it!!! I bought my Z06 for 23k :) I was clean but by no means fast, i believe they have 205 or 215hp stock. On another note its a 2jz motor just not turbo'd.. (2jzgtte)

what car is that in the sig??

Was wondering the same.
I really like the M idea...I'll see what's available, but honestly, I kinda want a 4door at the moment only due to needs plus lower insurance. Lastly, I need good gas mileage cuz if I'm stationed here in NC, I expect to make trips home if I get leave and such...

word of advice from someone who works on saabs. dont by it!!!
saab is no longer the quality car it used to be, ever since GM took over they have ran that line into the ground.

I've been looking at M's.
depending on the year your looking at can be affordable.
Also things I've been looking into is 325's with M's body package. While it would be nice to have the M, insurance on a M versus a 325 is a little different.
Also look at 3 series with Dinan pacakge. Most of that is just motor work. Looks to insurance man like a 3 series but runs like a M.
Saab in Europe I would buy in a heartbeat. Over here they have the GM touch and like stated is not exactly the best.
IS's are nice but it seems every poser has one.
I agree with Jfrolang, get an Ef, sway a K into it and call it a day. Get good gas mileage as well as it will run like a raped ape.

I owned two older Saabs, an '84 and an '89 900s and 900 respectively, and *will never* own another swedish automobile again. The parts were a big pain to find, and they weren't easy to work on. The later model Saabs are basically Opels with some of the nostalgia of the older Saabs thrown in to try and satisfy old school Saab buyers. Bottom line...no way in hell I would buy one.
A 3-series BMW with 80k-90k is just broken in. Those cars with the proper care and maintenance are 250k mi+ machines. Depending on what you could get for the Mustang, you might be able to get into an E46 M3. E36 M3s are getting pretty cheap these days; example: My former roommate asked me about one that his coworker was possibly going to sell for $5000. For cheaper insurance, and four doors, look for an E46 328i or 330i.
I'm not a big fan of Toyota products, so my vote is a no on the IS300. I'd rather buy the original...a 3-series BMW.

if you took a loan out for the mustang, you're going to be upside down for 2 years.
i'd look at the figures first. pm me if you don't want them made public and i'll try to help you.

what car is that in the sig??
That looks like a Pontiac Grand Prix, possibly a GTP or GTX with a turbo swap :???: . But yeah, my personal vote would be for the 300, there pretty nice cars, not a big fan of beemers, and I know saabs are crap.

Yes! I KNOW you want me back in an EF. And it just may happen... Believe it or not, owning a second vehicle CAN lower insurance in that type of situation and it IS something I've thought about. Bringing the EF out to cali or whatever, and just leaving the mustang in the garage to save mileage on it, and only use it when I come home as a secondary vehicle, and having the EF as a primary driver.
