Well in the past few months I have seen a large increase in Miatas at meets and on the road. So whats everyones take on this? Is the Mazda Miata the new Honda Civic??

no its just that its no affordable for someone our age to own although they have never been "expensive". plus i guess autocross and road racing are becoming the new drifting. and the miata is a good handling car from the factory. also the aftermarket is finally starting to come around for them as opposed to just a handful of manufacturers of several years ago.

I would say there is a trend in buying cheap busted Miatas in hopes of turning them into some kinda of race car... like the broke aasss with those busted 240s. This is why im glad the NB Miatas are still more expensive... keeps these kinda idiots away.

For a long time the Miata was primarily a sportscar driven by a enthusiasts old enough to have some money and knowlege of automobiles. This kept prices up.
Miatas have finally gotten cheap enough for broke ass kiddies to buy them (including NBs) and fuel prices have driven many others into the market toward a small fun sportscar to drive instead of that SUV.

Civics are econobox fwd commmuter cars that kiddies rice out.
Miatas are purpose built rwd roadsters.
They really dont compare.

Since Matt & Jesse are are both getting into the BMW scene I guess the Bimmer guys should be worried about the 'gay factor' :lmfao:

Some people are quick to say "chick car", but i'd say it's about 30-35% female owned car and im not talking about the "performance" crowd, im talking about what i notice driving around. Hell, Mercedes and Chrylser are driven by more women than anything..... even convertible Mustangs.

You're right. however I'm calling it a chick car based on how chicks rave about how absolutely adorably cute the car is.

Then when it comes to putting down the green, they'll back out and get the Civic. Its a chick car, but the quintessential "chick" is unable to afford it.

if your a miata driver,why does ur title say "drift"?I drifted my Miata with some success. The car wasn't that hard to break lose, but due to short wheelbase it was hard to get good angle without spinning it completely around. Still, it was ALOT of fun. When I managed to get my act together, it would slide with the best of them. :)

i think miatas are going to become more popular as people realize that FWD is FTL. it wont be as bad as the civic or 240 (i hope) but im sure they will get close.

It depends on how far along you are in the game. The 240's are dying now that the new bandwagon is time attacks. As already stated the Miata's are about the cheapest and best performing segway into this. All you need is a first gen, some low ebay springs and a roll bar and you're a real racer. lol It will become the new civic in much the same way the 240's have. Its a much better car than the civics and they never made as many so it won't be the same in numbers but there's already plenty of people who have no idea what they're doing but still trying anyways. I personally have stayed ahead of that trend and I've done plenty of Miatas and now I'm on to the BMW world too. My E30 is well underway and the blasphemy is already in the works, SR20 in an E30 FTMFW. Cheap speed at its finest.
