ok so i have had a 305 HO motor out of a 83 Z28 camaro laying around for almost a year. i finally decide to take it apart and clean it up. the motor is going to be mainly stock besides the cam with is a mild cam from comp cam and a eldebrock torker ll with a holley 650cfm carb with a good toon i think i will make decent power for a 305. but anyways here are a few pics will get some more and better one tomorrow

all comments are welcomed

sorry for the sloppy pic

Nice... I jst got a 89 s10 for the free free last week. I'm debating if i should swap the 2.8 for a v8. But its going to be my daily/parts runner, so i don't know if its worth it.

i prefer carb, im just not a big fan of alot of wiring. all this motor is going to be is a 4 wire motor (alt, starter, dizzy, ign.) and it all done. and must of all my cars ive ever done some stuff with is carb. so it alittle easier on me to

V8 S10's MOVE!!! and those HO motors are pretty good, if you have a 4.3 then the swap is easy as ****, I've done two of them now... Good luck......

yeah, the 83 z28 I believe ran a 14.9 from the factory... My buddy ran a 14.9 in his when he took out spare and back seat. Another thing, I am guessing you do but do you already have the tranny? is it auto or manual? I think with the engine you have, in that truck... you will probably run low 15's... Just my opinion though. Remember, the higher you aim the more likely you are to be disappointed. Then you are going to feel like you wasted your time... Good luck with it bro. Keep us posted.

my plan is to get it tuned by a local shop down here called Reeves they got a dyno there and they are good at tuning holleys. but i also plan to get new read diff. and i am getting a T-5 out of the same camaro. i already have some wide a$$ rims i plan to use for some good slicks. idk though thats what im hoping for if i dont get it then o well it will still be my DD truck just with alittle twist :D

If you have the 305 go for it, but IMO a 327 or 350 would be better if you are wanting those times......but like I said if you already have that why spend the money. I just scrapped a 4 bolt main 350 last weekend, guess I should've posted it here first.:ninja:

well if your doing anything with a V8 and your worried about mpg then you shouldn't be doing it in the first place

but idk about the305 using alot of gas my other car when i tryed to sae gas im think i probably got around 22 mpg somewhere like that

my camaro has a 305 TBI which id say is bout same power wise as a early carbed 305

which mine is rated at 170HP 255tq stock with 700r4,id say it would run high 15

worst parts about 305s are the heads and exhaust..........ive seen a 305 make 30 more HP from just from full exhaust...

and my epa gas milage is like 18 city 25hwy

im debating abotu a ford 8.8 or maybe buying a locker diff with some stronger axles, but the main thing im still needing is the tranny i was told i can get a 5 spd off a 4.3 and use it but it wont take alot of power

Is that a old Edelbrock Torker manifold? If so man you need to change that thing asap. Test shows even the old design performance rpm manifold out performs the Torker manifolds. Just a FYI, you should find some good single plane manifolds cheap for your sbc.

well the torker is mainly helps just with the torque not that much hp but i got it for free helping my neighbor out with his s10 so free and gets alittle tq & hp i think ill stay with it for now :D

Looks like its coming along...I don't mean to down your setup but I've built dozens of motors as most people on here can vouge for. The heads are killing you as well as the cubic inches. The heads would be ok if you have the 64cc as they will help build a little compression which with the pistons your running may get you 9:1. What are the specs on your camshaft? You don't want to run to much stick for the rest of your combination. Mainly b/c the heads will not flow enough, unless you upgraded the springs they won't handle a whole lot of lift and the cam will bleed off some compression. The intake is going to hurt you and no its not going to help build torque. Over a stock intake it may help a little. I probably have a edelbrock performer rpm intake laying around. If you have any ?? or want any advice feel free to ask. I can give you some pointers on what weights and stuff to run in your distributor if you would like. Here is my latest I put in my Chevelle. Its a 421sbc, Callies Crank, Carrillo Rods, Crower Custom Solid Roller Camshaft(290/302 duration, .585/.603 lift on a 108 grind) 12cc Domed JE Pistons(12:5.1 Compression) Edelbrock Victor Jr. 28 degree aluminum heads(Raised Exhaust ports and Angle Plugs with 2.08 intake and 1.72 exhaust valves) Edelbrock Performer RPM 2-4's intake port matched to heads. 2 Edelbrock 650cfm carbs, these are coming off and a single 850cfm dominator going in place in a week or so. MSD Pro Billet Distributor with a MSD 6AL Box and Blaster 2 coil, Edelbrock Victor Jr. Aluminum Water Pump. Crane Needle bearing 1.6 Roller Rockers. I have a 3000 converter with a turbo 350 and 3.55 richmond gears with a eaton unit out back.

thats alittle info on my motor i dont know the cam specs i got it from a buddy he pulled it out of his 383 SBC it did have that many miles on it. but my main plan for this motor is just get it running and drop it in my truck when i get back from school. and then build it up i really dont want to get a 350 i want to see what i can get out of a 305 first right now ive put probably the max of about $100 in this motor. i just want my truck to be alittle fun truck not a straight drag truck

buddha@TeamFX
09-24-2008, 05:35 PM
Your main problem about not knowing the details of the camshaft is if it is too much duration and lift you could drop a spring. If they are able to handle it the heads may not flow well enough to be compatible with the camshaft. I'd personally get a camshaft that I knew all the specs of so you could know that you wouldn't be over camming the motor.

jew_boy
09-24-2008, 08:14 PM
well ill try to find out but the motor is complete together besides the valve covers and i got to leave the 28 to go to school and wont beable to really mess with my truck or the motor until march 8 but i will contact the guy i bought the cam from and try to post up the specs before i leave

jew_boy
09-25-2008, 05:10 PM
ok this is what i was told about the cam i bought "its spec are close to .460 lift with 1.5 ratio rockers and its duration should be about 215 @ .050." & "that cam was built for alot of low end torque.. and if you advance it about 4 degrees that cam should thump pretty hard"
