I have a 5hp honda motor, ive ran the piss out of it and bought it from a guy that had it from the early 1990's or something. It wont full crank, about once every hour itll crank up but only for about 3 seconds then it dies off. I replaced the air filter, changed the oil, and put a new sparkplug in it. still nothing. The head is leaking oil. What else may be the problem?

(Its a kart motor.

I can't imagine a used 5hp Honda motor selling for over $100.

either that, or an air leak somewhere on the intake tract....Those small motors are notorious to tend to somehow ALWAYS get an air leak and make startup a living he11. I.E., replace all gaskets...:goodjob:

uhm about the only way that engine can leak oil from the head is if the rings are broken... do a compression check on it... just pull the plug out and put your thumb over the hole and then pull the string... if it blows your thumb away its good if not they are probably gone....

I'd check the carb first. It might be a good idea to pull it off and rebuild it. The kits are like 10 bucks.
