***Note-I apolgize if this thread is in the wrong section, since it's "about gas" I assumed that it would fit in with Car Talk.***
During recent conversations about the upcoming presidential election, many people defend their candidate by arguing about "gas prices."
I personally think this is one of the stupidest things you possibly bring up when talking about who you're going to vote for; That gas prices are going to continue to rise, regardless of who's in office.
So I looked up "Gas prices around the world" and this is what I found.
http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/global_gasprices/price.html
CNN has already converted the chart, from liters to gallons, euros to dollars, etc...
After seeing this you have to ask yourself, With maybe the exception of Tokyo and Sydney,
Would you really want to live in any of the other countries with cheaper gas?
On a serious note, How hard would it be to "ship" gas from Caracas, Venezuela to the Florida coast? Or even GA Coast. You could use Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin islands as a "stopping point."
If it's too hard to go through the US Government guidelines, then just bypass them by shipping to the Bahamas, and have US buyers come to you...right??
Maybe I'm crazy:screwy:, you tell me.
In the mean time, Anyone want to throw in on a freighter, and take continuous trips across the Caribbean/Paradise?
You hate your job anyway...

Just like the rest of the world, their premium is better than ours. 98 octane.

Notice all the countries that have really cheap gas .. they don't drive anywhere near as much as us Americans. We're asking for it ..

 98 RON...which is really only about 93-94 here, which is pretty damn close to what I put in my car every week.

has anybody noticed that the price of race gas has barely budged in several years? inflation my ass...
its not about the president and the economy. its greedy oil company bigwigs.
and to the guy who said we ask for it because we drive more, how do you suggest we drive less? working necessitates driving (in most cases) and bills (including gas money) necessitates driving. its a cycle. you have to spend money to make money. if you figure out a way around this, please post a thread.
i have a feeling gas prices will start to drop pretty soon. or maybe its just false hope :(

they say its not due to oil big wigs, but to speculators. Ever since petroleum could be invested in as a potential future, the prices have gone up. I saw an article that says, as much as 50% of the price we're paying on oil right now is all due to speculators.

Well you have to remember that ..14 or 14 cents in venezuela is prob equal to our $5.
If the average monthly income in Venezuela is $300 US DOllars then .14 a gallon isnt that cheap.
See what im saying?

Also you peeps have to take into consideration that our dollar is extremely weak compared to other countries. If the dollar was better and held more value gas wouldnt be as bad.

If baseing the value of todays dollar against the value of the dollar in 1980, it is worth .40 cents. Take the average price of gasoline back then, which seems to be about 1.22. If I did the math correct (and please correct me if i'm wrong, I am at work and extremelly tired.), Gasoline should be 3.17 a gallon today if we were to base it off of those numbers. Just my :2cents:
edit - and of course I understand that there are other factors, but this is just an estimate. Just something to think about.

That would be me. We use a lot of gas outside of driving to work. For instance how many gallons of gas do you think was spent just for people to enjoy the Varsity Meet tonight? Anyway, I don't really think there is a way around this because the people that set these gas prices know us Americans can't live without it so pretty much we're at their knees. No one wants to lose their lifestyle so of course we suck it up and pay the gas prices; we enjoy burning gas for pleasure whether it's going to the mall, car meet, driving out of state for vacation .. whatever

someone is creating the speculation for gas to rise, see jp morgan and the great depression for an example.
