What are your opinions on it? Me, I feel the car is over priced, under powered and just fugly. I didnt even know it was a M3 until It passed me. The last Gen M3's look so much better and more agressive. 90k bucks for 400 hp? Why not spend 50-60k on a Ferrari 355 and have the right to say you own a beautiful Ferrari. Or 30k for a Gen 1 or 2 Viper with 400-500 hp? I think the car is just completly pointless.
-Ant.
I like it for what it is but I wouldnt buy brand new, CPO'd and say.. $50k I'd consider it but would rather get a 911 S

So you're calling overprice because it doesn't 328097520987329hp?!? Come on now, it's more to car then hp. BMW is on point when it comes to technology, and I believe the engine in the M3 is one of the most efficient every created (using direct injection). Most companies are still in development when it comes to direct injection and here BMW is already using.

its a nice car and all, but the prices just keep going up. E46 M3s were like $65K new. I dont think the upgrade in technology is worth the price of a nice daily driver...

Yea.....thats exactly my point. If you look at most cars now a days the price is influenced by the HP rating and how it performs on the track. NINETY THOUSAND dollars for this car....no matter what you say, it will ALWAYS be over priced...and fugly.
Most companies are still trying to design direct injection?....I didnt know we were still in the 70's.

And a car that is sold at 65 grand and 3 years later is worth LESS than HALF of that isnt really a good car..is it?

I don't post up often, but this warrants attention.
The new M3 is currently selling for MSRP, which is 54k base for the sedan and 57k for the coupe.
Why not spend the money on Ferrari 355... well #1 is of course maintenance. BMW's is free where as the Ferrari will cost you thousands in a year.
It has been proven that the 400hp BMW is quicker around a track than its competition. HP numbers mean nothing if can't put it down properly.
Oh, and resell value has a lot more to do the economy and financing than a brand.

Unless u want Ferrari maitenanc  e..don't get me wrong..the F355 is a beautiful car..but the cost of hi-italian performance upkeep, i would rather have my nice BMW warranty..
Gen 1 Viper>? The Viper is a brute, that's for sure. If you're looking for refinement, that isn't it...Just seems cheaply built as well
im surprised you didn't throw a Z06 in the mix

It is more expensive then the last gen M3, but that's mostly because the American Dollar has depreciated a lot compared to the Euro.
But if I bought a new BMW it would probably be the 135i.
As for the M3 I'll wait 5-7 years and buy a used one.

Your post confirms you've never driven either car. First, the three cars are from completely different eras and cater to different segments. I'm sure less than 5% of M3 buyers would even consider an F355, or a similar number of 1st gen Viper aficionados considering M3s.
Even an ///M3 with custom interior and paint (BMW Individual) does not cost 90K.. so unless you're reading info off some UK web site, you are completely off the mark. Second, try getting a F355 in mint condition for $50K.. oh that's right, you can't. Besides, as someone else mentioned, you need a lot of dough to maintain a Ferrari. Check out Edmunds long term Ferrari if you wanna continue blabbering. 30K for a Gen1 Viper might sound cool and bargain basement but then then the overall quality is bargain basement as well. If you hate BMWs, admit it. But don't go about posting nonsensical information.
The only thing I agree with is your approval of E46 M3s. But if it's aggresiveness you seek, the E30 M3 is the real wolf amongst the ///M pack. Of course, if it were my money, I'd just buy an RS4 or '09 RS5.

I just think the 3.0L TT motor would have been a simply amazing way to go they could have easily gotten 400hp or more out of that motor
i think the car is cool it could look better and have more power. its ok but i'd never ****ing buy one
probably find one wrecked, pull the motor and drop it in something else
idk what tho

M3 has to be N/A to add to that, Forced induction isn't allowed in allot of series the M3 racecar will compete in. Like GT2.

Check the displacement difference. And Torque it is important...but the higher you go in revs......the lower it gets.
And this 4.0 liter revs to 8,300 RPM!!!! I mean really.
im going to test drive one tomorrow! but yeah, its exact same 0-60 as the e46, more hp, more torque but heavier.. i don't like the fact that they put a v8 in it, the inline 6 was so much better imo.. Looks are nice, i like the way the new 3 series look.. but yeah, overpriced, rather get a porsche for that..

There's a very common misconception and mispronunciation that has been around for years. A "beamer" is a BMW motorcycle. A "bimmer" is a BMW car.
The term "Beemer" started as an acronym for the abbreviation "BMW," adapted from the early-20th century British pronunciation of BSA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birmingham_Small_Arms_Company) (as /ˈbisə/ or /ˈbizə/), whose motorcycles were often racing BMWs. Over time, the term became closely associated with BMW motorcycles.
In the United States, the term "Bimmer" was later coined to refer (exclusively) to BMW automobiles. As such, use of the word "Beemer" to refer to a BMW automobile is frowned upon by some BMW enthusiasts,[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bimmer#cite_note-boston-bmwcca.org-4) because it is the term used for motorcycles. Although the distinction is completely arbitrary, to this day, the media, movies, and most people still use the term "Beemer" to refer to the automobiles.

rare we see eye to eye but i agree, the new m3 just that much better than anything it is up against.
First and foremost, you can buy it as a manual. That is a big part of any car for me.
#2 A good driver will be able to get an M3 around a race track faster than an IS-F, C63 tire roaster, and the understeer machine rs4.
+ the interior is a toss up, some like BMWs inside some dont, the simple fact the i drive computer can control the electronic diff on the inside is a big plus for me.

Lets see...
Statistics.
=58-65 grand. A friend of mine has one it was 61,000. Don't know where you got 90k but only a few sold close to that long before they came out. Then again GT500's are still selling for 70k so the M3's price dropped accordingly once they were offically "out." They had two at global for 61,000 loaded out the door a few weeks ago.
-Their 10-15k+ cheaper than the RS4, Cheaper than the C63 and the same price as the IS-F. The car is suitably priced for what its competition is.
-They trap 111-116 on 19" 30 series tires. Their words faster than the E46 M3 and the CSL. Seen here...http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=M3+CSL+vs+M3&hl=en&sitesearch=#
- It accomplished its goal of keeping pace with a 997S as its just as fast straight line and on the ring. It also keeps pace with cars like 996 Turbo's and 360 Modenas of a few years ago in terms of lap times/straight line speed.
-It has the most advanced V8 out. Its engine of the year and ousts the RS4 by .2 liters, 50 rpm while making the same power. The powerplant is beyond this world amazing.
- The E36 M3 was rated a better handeling car then the F335 coupe dollar for dollar. This car is leagues ahead of an F355 and laughable on how much less it is to maintain considering its free for the first 50k miles.
As even a retarded car enthusiast could acknowledge the car does everything very well. Better than what it was designed to beat. With that in mind you couldn't argue that it wasn't an amazing car thats suitably priced with amazing acknlowledgements and rewards to follow what it has. If you don't think on those lines then i'm afraid you simply don't know much about cars.
-I.M.O its beautiful. Aggressive but still very classy. It's like its competition that you can drive daily comfortably but it reeks of performance. It screams motorsports like it should.
-Whats dollars to some is pennies to others, if you think its overpriced then get a better job. All that it offers is OUT of your league. If an M3 were a Honda bargain it wouldn't be an M3. This car is Porsche/Ferrari/Masarati style performance for much less. Hence why there are SO many posers buying them..they can AFFORD THEM. Coming from a racing background i've volunteered at tons of Ferrari/Porsche track days and several do not welcome BMW's. Owners get very aggrevated when their very expensive Ferrari is being run down by a "cheap" M3 and i've even seen many pack up and go home because of it (this is mostly driver skill). I find this hilarious even though M3's are perceived as the cheap mans supercar by elitists.
-You could compare it to a faster C6 vette or smaller but = performance more expensive 100k Carrera S but thats purely subjective. They offer completely different thingshttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2216/2437537940_3ece919d52_o.jpg

I'd really like to see what the new M3 can do on a road course in the hands of a capable driver. I think that would be the most telling thing about the car's perceived value. If it can run down a C6Z and still haul around three of the driver's pals, then it will be a formidable car.
We have an E46 M3 that Time Trials with NASA, and that car time wise is in the company of C6Zs, a '99 FRC Corvette, and a C5Z.
The only think I hate about the M3 is the C/F roof.

Look at an E92 in white with the c/f roof. Your opinion will definitely change.

That's impossible. A "loaded" M3 runs close to 70K+. Unless Global are quitting the business of selling cars, I don't see how anything more than a spartan M3 could go for 58K+taxes.
GT500KRs are selling at twice their MSRP though. MSRP - 70K, ebay auction prices - 120K+.

Dunno where you're getting your stats from. Gwinnett Audi has 3 MY08 RS4s priced in the mid60s. A similarly equipped M3 is a wee bit cheaper, but definitely not $10-15K cheaper.

The international engine of the year award was won by the N54 TT.. the powerplant is amazing though.

I'll have to agree with the rest of your statements.

It's actually not at all. They had twin M3's in there at MSRP (considering its technically against the law for a deal to mark up a car) for $61,500. These were also the first two I had seen. They also had a some options..no carbon roof, head up display, stereo. If you think its possible then I suggest you go to your local dealer and check up its $56,500 base price..or about what we paid for our S5. A steal if you ask me and at that price it still is the poor mans supercar when it comes to elitiest track day clubs.

RS4's base price is that of a completely loaded M3. I know this because my mother almost bought one, I help out at Jim Ellis and we have 3 Audi's in the direct family. I also spent a few days in an RS4 we brought home. They start around 67k but no car is without an expensive premium package. Typical RS4's leave the dealer around 71-73k or about 14k more than my E92 M3 with head up display option only.

Yep I know. Wait a see what wins it this year.. I already know where my money is going for the 3rd year in a row.
I'm glad you do I can happily say you know your cars then.

i really like it, i'd love to hear a V8 rev up to 8k.
The V8 in the e92 m3 is lighter then the I6 in the e46 m3, and on top gear it went around a track faster then the new C63 AMG and the outdated RS4

I love the Looks but it's lacking in it's class performance wise!
It still has it's overall appeal but 90k is to0 mucho.
Lacking in it's class performance wise? Are we talking about the same car here? I'm about as far from being a fanboy of BMW as a Euro-car guy can get, but it's comments like this that make me wonder if there isn't just some animosity involved. It's certainly not anywhere near the bottom of it's very small class in performance.

I'd just stick with a used e46 with some fat rims or a 335i with good looks. :goodjob:
Ya gotta have luxury after all this test & tune:cheers:

I love it, looks and all. The looks are purely preference, a lot of people are going to thing it's fugly. I like it a lot, imo it does a good job of looking pretty angry while maintaining clean body lines. Plus the new v8 is genious as far as the engineering does, maybe American car makers will pick up on this and realize you don't need 6 liters to make good power.
