The Miata failed emissions, so I need to take it somewhere. Where is a good place to go around either the downtown area or East Cobb (preferably)?
what did it fail? any codes? what year is it?

Volmaz in Decatur does good work, they worked on my Volvo and I hear they do better work on Mazda's.

No codes.
It failed the 25/25 test under these two conditions:
CO %
NOx ppm
I went to the NAPA shop down the street and they charge $150 just for the tests. Is this right? I've never had a car fail an emissions test, so all of this is new tome.
Alto of things could make your CO, and Nox level fail.. Cat/o2 sensor/fouled plugs...etc...my first guess wold be the cat is bad, has it been replaced?

I am not sure. I doubt it. I have had the car for about 6 months and I haven't touched it.

maybe the previous owner couldnt get it to pass. If so isnt that illegal to sell a non passing emissions car. If you run a car fax...t will tell you. What year is ur miata? if its a 1.8 more than likely its urs cat.

He could. Seller was very upfront and honest. I was able to register it with no problems when I bought it at the end of November.
It's a 94, so yeah, it is a 1.8.

$150 for a emissions test?? wow.. you are what they call a "sucker". Why not go to any other emissions place that charges $25?
It's probably your converter or o2 sensor.

Not the actual emissions test. I paid $25 for the test. I think charging more than $25 is actually illegal. lol. They were talking about $150 to test what was wrong with the car, which still sounded like a little much, but then again what do I know.

Don't take the car to mazcare for a simple emission problem... Unless you like to be overcharged :)

The cat was the culprit. Thanks to all that helped. I didn't end up taking it to Mazcare, but appreciate having the information because I am sure at some point I will need to take it to them for something.
