I need to do some more resurch on it but so far all I know of that they do to treat it is put them on soy formula..
If these next tests come back that he does have it, then we myself and Joe might have to be tested to see if we carrey the gene that causes that. Usuly the baby will get one of the what I now call "bad" gene from each parent. BUT he could have started it (dont think we are carriers) I guess it has to start somewhere. This is all he has done since we left the hospital, he even slep through diaper changes, had to MAKE him wake up to eat which just pissed him off lol

Thanks all for the support Amy really needs it, she isn't dealing with this very well. I know things will be just fine as long as we do what the doctors tell us to do.

He should be showing some symptoms. If he does show symptoms both parents are carriers. I'm surprised that someone on either side of the family has not been diagnosed before, if that is the case. I hope the doctor told you not to feed the baby anything with lactose until they can confirm their suspicions. Like I said in your other post, the baby cannot ever consume diary products, and some veggies with a high content of galactose. As everyone else stated, everything will turn out grrrrrrrrreat. Goodluck.

I have had callls the past 3 days from Emmory (sp?) making sure I know whats going on with him, when the dr offive first called to tell me the results the first thing she said was "you need to go RIGHT NOW and get him soy formula" I'm not sure what all the symptoms are the site I found about it had nothing about symptoms, the dr keep asking me if he was spitting up the other formula or the brest milk, which he was pretty bad I assumed that was one of the symptoms. Thakns

My baby's PKU came back that he might have galactosemia, so we had to take him for a repeat PKU which came back the same as the first, so I had to take him to the hospital for tests yesterday so they could confirm that he has it or not. Praying he doesn't...

Poor feeding by the baby is one of the signs. I'm not implying the baby has galactosemia, but I'm sure the hospital wants to be 100% sure in their diagnosis, hence the retesting. Some other signs to look for :
-Jaundice (yellowish discoloration of the skin and the whites of the eyes)
-Vomiting
-Poor weight gain
-Lethargy
-Irritability
-Convulsions
There is a site called http://www.galactosemia.org/ (http://www.galactosemia.org) that is not for profit and started my parents with children who suffer from galactosemia. The site has tons of useful info. I'm sure you may have found it during your search online. Ask your pediatrician whether you should refrain from feeding the baby any dairy products until they confirm the issue. Goodluck!

Thanks a lot Tiff we really appreciate (sp?) it, we have learned a great deal about it and are learning more and more every day.. We were relived to hear Tyler was ok he is to sweet of a kid to have to go through all of that horible stuff. I really think I jumped to conclusions last year and I am sorry for that I should have kept my mouth shut if I wasn't 100% posative about things. We miss hanging out with you guys, I really hope that you guys can get past it as we have and be friends with us again, back when we were hanging out you had said we were going to have a boy so that Katlyn would have a boy friend LOL I never thought we really would have a little boy together but we did!!! Anyways I hope you guys take care and thank you for keeping our son Joseph Jr in your prayers..
