What is your plan for the truck? Rockcrawling, prerunner, or just hitting some mud holes?

I plan on a SFA conversion soon. Its not a prerunner it is 4x4 hince the mannual locking hubs in the front and cv axle. I hate the IFS its a POS.

I like riding trails and some rocks but I am waiting for the SFA to do any major rock stuff..

Also the shackles on the 63" leaf spring = articulation witch is a Plus :boobies:

and the tires look small because I just put new high clearence bumpers on it :screwy:

duh it would crawl over my honda...what I meant to say is I used to have trucks and jeeps like that and what you really need is to take off the body lift and get wider tires

Prerunner does not mean 2wd but that is not the issue. I can see it is a 4wd. When you do the conversion what axle do you have in mind? Old Toyota birfield, Dana 44, 60 ...

Prerunner does mean 2wd. There vehicles used more in off road racing such as the baja 3000. Toyota uses the name prerunner for there vehicles a a classification. Any non 4wd Tacoma you see will say prerunner.

I am well aware that Toyota uses the name for their 2wd trucks that are built with a similar ride hide as their 4wd but that does not mean a prerunner cannot be 4wd. When Pontiac came out with the Trans Am it had a 400 cubic inch engine that was too big to run in the Trans Am series (just another example that just because a manufacturer uses a name it does not make it the end all be all). Prerunner in the racing world is a vehicle that you use to run the race course beforehand (pre-run) and there is no sanctioning rules on drive train for a vehicle that is not in the actual competition. Since you bring up the Baja 1000, I was involved with the only vehicle from Georgia to enter the Baja last year and yes it was 4wd.

Back on topic if you need help finding a straight axle I know of a few good places.

But not all 2wd toyota trucks 96 and up are not prerunners..prerunners have a higher stance and usually bigger tires than a regular 2wd truck...I think the term for the 2wd trucks that aren't prerunners is "mini"

All I was just stating was that prerunner does also mean 2wd and yes the Baja 1000 does also include 4WD vehicles. It's cool that you got the oppertunity to participate in it. I want to build a rig to take down there eventually.
