Why don't you just ask a BMW dealership? This guy paints car, he doesn't sell them...

Why don't you just ask a BMW dealership? This guy paints car, he doesn't sell them...Great idea, just like they asked a REALLY stupid question...why not call up a car dealership and ask how much for a car? What kind of response would you expect...uh, what car? He's not a girl scout selling boxes of cookies for a set price! There's dozens of factors and variables to painting a car...body work? replacing a fender vs. bondo? how much body prep and/or blocking will be done? what kind of paint? clear coat? what quality paint? wet sanding? polishing? etc. etc. etc.

Girls Scout cookies - $3.50
Car on BMW lot - $40k-140k
Paint & Body work - $500-5,000+

You can't expect someone to give an estimate when they can't possibly know what they are getting into until they see it.

Sure you can. You give a price, and then go up from there depending on what needs to be done and what the customer wants done. Isn't that how you give a paint quote anyways? You give them a price and then add on for whatever needs to be done.

boostedb16

it would be better to see a car before be giving a price but if there's no body work and all i have to do is scuff on up and tape it then maybe i could give a good ball park price.

How about an Integra that has been prep'd. All that is needed is a spray.

BTW good job. Got skills.

You give them a price and then add on for whatever needs to be done.Give a price for what? The "average" cost of a gallon of paint? Price to repair the "average" amount of door dings? The "average" time it takes to prep a car to spray it? LOLOL *sigh*

Maybe a price can be given over the phone if it's an assembly line body shop like Maaco where they knock out a few dozen in a week but they'll still request the car be inspected first before giving an estimate.

i have a friend that owns a body shop and i just call him a few days in advance and i can use it anytime i need to. pretty good deal, i mean i clean the shop for him but that take's about an hour.
