i know somebody on here can explain what leakdown is and what are the usual supects for causing it. i just got a comp test on my motor and i have excellent compression but 16% leakdown. can someone help me understand what this is? thx in advance :thinking:

i know somebody on here can explain what leakdown is and what are the usual supects for causing it. i just got a comp test on my motor and i have excellent compression but 16% leakdown. can someone help me understand what this is? thx in advance :thinking: leak down usually refers tothe valve seal. when you do a compression test your usually testing the piston rings and their seal against the cylinder wall... but then again a leakdown can also show a leak around the rings if the valves are good. but all in all leakdown tests topend. compression test is for rings.

Sounds like bad valve seals or guides.
If they leak oil, your compression will be good(oil in cylinder). but leakdown will be bad.

Did you hear air coming from anywhere? Like out the intake,exaust,the ajoining cylinder,dipstick or radiator?

its already in the shop right now i just didnt ask what it was when he told me thx tho
