I have an ls/vtec and my vtec is not engageing. It was all working fine till the other day my car stopped sparking and would not start. I changed out the coil and the rotor button in the distributor and the car started again, but vtec is no longer working. also it smells like there is an excess of fuel.

Does anyone have any ideas why my vtec may not be working?

Drop some lemon juice on it and the v-tec should magically reappear. Do you know where it disappeared to? Are you sure its not hiding in your trunk or under your spare tire?

make sure you check all the wiring, such as the wiring to the vtec solenoid, as well as the ecu.

the excess fuel may have nothing to do with it btw it may be caused by something else

nismo- thanks for nothin funny guy. the wiring seems to be fine. could it be fuel or oil pressure? or maybe the new coil(duralast from autozone)?

Isnt there a v-tec solenoid that could have broken?

I dont know about the vtec solenoid, i would think that would throw a cel code. and i dont have the right dipstick for the ls block, i guess i can change the oil

Did you jump the wiring to engage VTEC ?

Re-check the wiring at the VTEC pressure switch and solenoid just in cause something fired. Also, like a few others have stated, low oil level will cause VTEC not to engage.

what do you mean "jump the wiring to engage vtec"?

That is what I mean by jumping the wiring harness. I thought my VTEC was engaging when in fact, I hadn't wired it yet.

no, its all wired up, it was working fine before....

Then, add a little oil and see it that does it. If not, then it may be the solenoid or pressure switch malfunctioning.

good points.. then again if this doesn't work you could take it to a shop or someone that might have a better idea

change your oil...My friend with his integra had this happen to him and he changed his oil and magically it reappeared. I think that if your oil is too low vtec is disabled

ummm that would be me... and no. it had nothing to do with oil pressure actually, it was the map sensor. without the map sensor it was running extremely rich all the time. once i had the map sensor wired in everything started working again including vtec.

but it's definitely something to look into. change your oil and check the pressure.

you say you smell fuel? if you're running rich i'm guessing it could be possible that vtec doesn't work with too much fuel considering my situation. however, i would recommend taking it to someone that knows what they're doing.

vtec seems to be pretty tricky. my friend's h22 rarely gets vtec to work.
