I just swapped my my 89 240 over to a 95 ka24de and its running like crap. The engine is fine and when it idles it runs perfectly. The car will only idle with the MAF unplugged and it wont rev over 3K with out it. As soon as you plug the MAF in it starts to sputter then dies. We get a new MAF which fixed it running rich but it still wont idle when its plugged in. When the MAF is in its like you have to keep fighting with the throttle to keep it alive. Also the Engine keeps over heating. We replaced the thermostat and refilled the coolant but it still over heats.

If you got any recommendations don't hesitate to post, thanks.

About the starting system, and idling problems: Is that it, what kind of smoke is coming out of the exhaust?

Overheating: Does your fan for the radiatior work?

Theres white smoke coming out when its cold like normal, then some black smoke when its warm. I just sea foamed it so I know its still getting rid of the carbon. when you full throttle it the car will just bog and take a while to rev up.

Heating, there is only the fan connected to the crank running. I went out today and put some more coolant in it and it ran way better temperature wise.

I just replaced the MAF with a different one so thats not it. We think the ECU might be bad so I'm going to get another one and see what that does.

So on the overheating, it was low on coolant ?

Try resetting the ecu with the new mafs to make sure its not storing any codes. The coolant thing was probably an air bubble somewhere, did you try bleeding it?

Have you checked to see if your plugs are fouled to hell?
and x2 on checking the rad fan.

We didn't bleed it but it seems fine now. I'm waiting on a new MAF now and we did reset the other one with the new MAF in.

The plugs are good and I don't think the radiator fan will need some attention. Reps to all for the help, if I can.
