I got this list from j-body.org, and its about how to build a custom turbo kit for my car's engine. Does the list look complete? or are there other parts on the side that i should know about?? I think im going to take ~a year + or - to try to save up the money to get all the parts for a custom turbo, or buy a turbo kit...
Oh, and i've heard that you can take a turbocharger off of a Volvo from the junkyard, and get 4 or 5 psi...is this a good starting point? or what??
Heres the list:
Turbo (generally a T3 or T3/T4 will do)
Wastegate (Internal or external)
Manifold
Turbo downpipe Flange
Bolts for turbo and downpipe flange
Downpipe
Braided oil lines with fittings
2.5" Pipe for charge pipes
Connectors and clamps for pipes
BOV and flange
FMU (I'd go cartech adjustable personally)
Bigger Injectors (if you plan to run over 6lbs of boost)
Inline/In tank pump
Boost controller (I'd go Greddy Profec)
MSD-DIS 2 (To turn back timing if you want anything over 6bs really)
TB Plenum
Lots of misc vaccum hose
Rubber Fuel lines for FPR
Oil and oil filter (for the obvious reason)
Gaskets
Gasket sealer
Air filter
Intercooler (optional, but worth it)
Some spare metal brackets for custom mounting the Intercooler
Misc bolts (self tapping), and Nut/bolt combos
Gauge pod
Boost Gauge, EGT gauge (optional but smart to have one)
(If you have a profec boost controller the boost gauge is unnecessary as its built in)

You can find a garrett off of a saab, volvo, or mercedees, they work good for 4 cylinders.

A missing link is something that you do not need, it is a POS. All it does is bleed off pressure before the map sensor so it doesnt "read boost", or more pressure then the sensor can handle before it goes into dummy mode. If you are serious about boosting then you should get the map sensor from the SS, its a 2.5 bar map.

The ecotec is a badass motor, its just a shame that GM cheaped out on the crank and some other things. They should have put a crank in it that will support the 1450hp that their drag cars are making and a tranny that will hold it without having to swap to a different model. I am in the honda community, but I am impressed with the ecotec. Its just hard to beat a motor that can hold 400+ hp in stock form that was NA to begin with, and hold over 500whp on the stock sleeves with just pistons and rods reliably. Lastly a stock crank that support 1200whp and its from an engine that was originally NA and not designed to make that power. The Sleeved block from chevy is $2700, the race crank thats in the drag cars is $3500!!!!!!!!!!!!! The race head, and some other mics things thats not even enough to put a running built motor together is over $6k and that doesnt include a turbo kit , ignition, tranny, or fuel.
I really want to build one, but its just too much money.
